Wawasan 2020 or Vision 2020 is a vision introduced by Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia in 1991. The vision requires the nation to achieve a fully developed country by the year 2020. For this reason, nine strategic challenges have been listed out by Tun Mahathir that the Malaysian need to deal with in order to achieve Vision 2020. However, there are only three years left for Malaysia to achieve a self-sufficient industrialized nation but yet until now, Malaysia is still categorized as a developing country. Even though Malaysia is known as one of the fastest growing country in East Asian, Malaysia is yet could not compete with other advance countries such as Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong in East Asian. There are several factors that affect the development of this country. Notwithstanding, the most significant reason that makes Vision 2020 remains slogan is the problem of corruption in public sector in Malaysia. The greed and the desire for money and power of a government officials have made the situation went from bad to worse. According to the corruption perceptions index 2015 surveyed by the Transparency International, Malaysia ranked 54 among 168 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2015, with a score of 50 out of 100. This is a drop from rank 50 out of 175 countries in CPI 2014, when Malaysia scored 52 out of 100.has scored 50 marks over 100 marks which the score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
