How to Be a Better Student Having good writing skills is very important to me. If I improve on my writing skills it can provide better grades and a higher quality future. In this essay I’m going to be stating ways that I can ameliorate my writing skills. I have never been a big fan of reading books and it is mostly because I’m too indolent or because I didn’t think it was fun.
At the start of my freshman year, literature and language had no interest to me and I feel as though my writing reflected that. When it came to learning how to improve sentence structure or understanding the author’s purpose I was disengaged and didn’t completely grasp key concepts that would have improved my writing ability. But as my time in high school has gone on I’ve come to better understand how important it is to know these skills and that has made a huge and very visible difference in my writing. And because of that writing has become an outlet of personal expression to me as opposed to just being an obnoxious part of English. Three years ago, my writing was weak in terms of grammatical errors.
Throughout this semester, I can honestly say that my writing has improved in both style and technique. These eighteen short weeks (give or take) have shown me both positive and negative aspects of my writing capabilities. My confidence has grown and I have learned many new things. I have been given the opportunity to pick topics that I feel I could write well about and this has made essays more fun and enjoyable. MY instructor and peers have both given me accurate critiques that have only bettered my work.
In the very beginning of English 101, I was informed that homework will be daily and intense. Be prepared for class counted as participation grade, as well as speaking in class. I thought my papers needed to be up to the standards at the beginning of class because the syllabus set certain concerns by the way it was phrased. I was expected to summit my daily assignments on time and improve on my writing as the semester went by, and I was overwhelmed by such responsibility. That was how I first came into realization of my expectations that were needed to be met in order for me to pass the class.
Why Comp I is So Valuable I believe that there are several reasons why Composition I is a valuable course for college students to take. Some of the reasons Comp I is so valuable are 1) it improves your writing skills, 2) it teaches us the different types of writing, and most importantly 3) it teaches us to manage our time wisely and effectively. Without the course Comp I, I believe that students wouldn’t be prepared or as prepared to take on the real world. Writing skills are something that most people don’t just have.
In my opinion I haven 't changed that much. I feel that I have become more mature in life in general and in my writing and language. I also think that my personality has changed a little but not very much. I have tried to start helping people more were at the beginning of the year I didn 't help very many people because I didn 't know very many people. I have also improved a lot.
When I think of myself as a writer, I think of a writing struggle. I struggle with getting things done by the deadline, there are times when I feel “on top of the world” this is when I write my best, and there are times when I can’t write at all, I just feel like dying. I went through a lot during Junior year, and it resulted in me being very depressed; which really affected my ability to write. I hate writing when my heart isn’t in it when this happens it leads me to procrastinate, waiting for a spark of motivation but, during Junior year I realized you just have to fake it occasionally and write with only your intelligent mind. My Junior year I decided to take Mr.Davies Dual Enrollment English class, a college level class.
I know every writer has had trouble writing at some point and they all had to improve so I hope this is my time to improve my writing. I can say without a doubt that I have made a grave mistake. I just enrolled in this class to try to get a head start on writing for college and to try to improve my writing skills which I don’t have much of in the first place. I can already tell that the next two quarters might or will be awful, but I have to take this class to be able to take Composition I and Composition II. I have no other want or need for writing except for college I have no further plans to try to involve writing in anything I do, the faster I can get it away from writing the better.
My Writing Process Characterization is the craft element that gives my work the most impact. Characterization helps me convey information about my characters. It clearly portrays the behavior of each character either through their actions or speech. Description of the characters’ appearance and explaining their mannerism helps me built my plot. Through characterization my audience is able to know the characters and understand their impact in the development of the plot.
In English 100 we have written multiple types of papers and we have learned many new writing skills and strategies and ways to make our papers meet the collegian standard. English has always been one of my favorite subjects, I love writing papers and seeing the final copy and getting a good grade. However, English 100 has improved my writing skills in many different ways, I’ve seen the most growth in my grammatical skills. I’ve improved on how I use the same “types, endings” of words in sentences. Although, there is always room for improvement.
