The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) launched a two-year initiative in 2008 to take action in order to assess and transform the needs for the nursing profession. They looked into the nurse’s responsibilities, roles, background, and education levels to foresee the future of the nursing profession, where they developed four key messages of recommendations. The first recommendation is “Nurses should practice to the full extent of their education and training.” (IOM, 2010) There are differences in nursing practices, education, licensing, and regulation across states, which leads to a lack of inconsistency in the health care industries.
