Did you know that the automatic rifle could give a man the firepower of a whole squad. As a matter of fact 12942 people were killed with rifles in 2015 alone. Automatic rifles are the guns the military use and can sometimes fall into the wrong hands. was born and raised in Vietnam where guns are not commonly used. It is really rare for a person to own a gun in Vietnam, which was why I was shocked when I moved here because here people allow to carry guns with them. I grew up in culture where guns associate with violence. I just don’t think owning a gun would make you any safer because once you got that gun on your hand, you are more likely to hurt someone. Carrying a gun, give you reason to pull that trigger.
Out of the three stories “The Dogs Could Teach Me” by Gary Paulsen, “The Flowers” by Alice Walker, and “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, Gary Paulsen’s story demonstrates the strongest description. Paulsen demonstrates being most descriptive by his word choice. Throughout the story ”The Dogs Could Teach Me”, he uses words that help the reader make a clear picture of what is being talked about. While describing the injury the character goes through, he uses words and phrases such as “sharp snag”, “...enter under the kneecap...”, “...hit the ice of the stream bed like dropped meat…”, etc. These word choices allow the reader feel the pain of hitting the ice or the wood going through the character´s knee.
Hey Molly, I think it’s awesome that you are an Expert Marksman! I can hit a clay pidgin with a shotgun, but that’s about it. I know what you mean about being talkative until it’s something you’re required to do, not to mention graded on. I can be a perfectionist sometimes and the English language isn’t my strongest point, so I can get kind of freaked out myself putting a weakness on display like that. Still I think this class has the potential to be a lot of fun.
The Virginia Tech shooting was a massacre that occurred on April 16,2007 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, It resulted in the death of 32 people and wounded 17 people. Muchacho, Joe, Estudiante; Let me assure your, no offense was taken. I 've always tried to help the uneducated. A Profession of Arms is an experience a person can’t truly understand if they never served in any type of militarize organization. Those who served must understand the culture, the history and they always have a reason why they volunteered. They must follow a certain code of conduct and discipline which often make them look or behave differently among others. I joined the Army for the transformation and to do something different comparing the friends that I grew up with. When I graduated from Basic and AIT my friends noticed the changes that occurred in my life when I returned home.
The barbaric soldiers came closer and closer holding their guns tightly. My heart began jumping aimlessly as if it wanted to burst through my chest. My mind started racing not being able to stop the millions of thoughts running through my head. I was almost consumed by the darkness growing in my head when my dad busted through the door. Why did I go into this career? I could have done anything else, but no I became a sniper. Why are there so many stairs on this building and why do they want me to kill this kid? What did this kid do to make them so mad? Who is they, why this kid and who came up with this plan?
The portrayal of a soldier is the theme that I have been researching. The portrayal of a soldier is to show different characteristics and emotions of soldiers either during war or when they return from war. The four texts I looked at is, the film/movie directed by Ted Kotcheff, “Rambo”, “The Sniper” written by Liam O’Flaherty, “Forrest Gump” directed by Robert Zemeckis and the song, “Goodnight Saigon” written and performed by Billy Joel. These four texts all portray soldiers in either similar or different ways. Two texts that portray soldiers as being fearful are The Sniper by Liam O'Flaherty and Rambo directed by Ted Kotcheff.
