1. In your own words, what does “social and behavioral science theory” mean? The “social and behavioral science theory” in my opinion means looking at the larger picture to understand and gain a greater perspective covering ongoing issues that have a need for change. As a result of the healthcare field vastly changing, experts in the field need to work together to obtain a better knowledge of ongoing health problems. There are no single underlying issues that cause health problems. The social and behavioral science theory suggests collaborating perspectives from different areas in the healthcare field such as physicians, public health experts, nurses, and dietitians. Each of these health professionals’ views health-related problems differently
"Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) provides a comprehensive set of 10-year, national goals and objectives for improving the health of all Americans" ("Healthy People 2020", 2015, p. 2). It monitors and evaluates whether the goals of improving health indicators are met or getting worse. Community health problems should be analyzed in order to comprehend and effectively resolve the problem ("Analyzing Community Problems", 2015). Levels of prevention are phases wherein healthcare professionals can intervene in the health of individuals and communities. Primary prevention involves seeking ways to prevent a person from having a disease they can be prone to.
Healthy People is an organization that identifies the Nation’s health improvement priorities. Established for more than 30 years, Healthy People is a recognized science-based national health objective that focuses on monitoring progress, motivating action, and the guiding efforts to improve health across the country (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2011). Also, Healthy People 2020 locates nearly 1,200 objectives in the preparation of 42 topic areas of which each represents an important public health area. Consequently, the aims of Healthy People 2020 Progress Reviews are to provide health officials and the public with information on the current status of the objectives within each of the Healthy People 2020 topic areas. Therefore, the health officials include the Assistant Secretary for Health, senior Health and Human Services (HHS) officials and Healthy People 2020 stakeholders (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
Creating value through collaboration has been a topic of concern over the last 50 years as the spending in health care has increased. The goal is to provide quality and affordability and because of past efforts, enrollment increased drastically while it created a shortage of providers. Integrating behavioral and medical health has not been properly addressed due to stigmas and lack of education. Behavior health is more common today and costly. In efforts to integrate and improve patient outcomes and provider experiences there are many ways to achieve this goal such as train medical providers, train behavioral practioniers and embed behavioral providers in primary care settings.
For the “Let’s Do This” program focused on reducing and controlling childhood obesity and adult onset of type II diabetes in Point Mar, an instructional strategy – lecture, quiz, games, and brain storming will be utilized. This is based on the Social Cognitive Theory applied to health behavior, which is an evidenced based approach (DiClemente, Salazar, & Crosby, 2013). The reason for utilizing this strategy is that this approach is based on behavioral adaptations that will improve health within the community. In addition, the five key constructs of the social cognitive theory are; knowledge, perceived self-efficacy, outcome expectations, goal formation, and socio-structural factors (DiClemente, Salazar, & Crosby, 2013). Another reason is that this strategy is a multi-level intervention approach that is aimed at the individual and his immediate social environment (DiClemente, Salazar, & Crosby, 2013), which plays a huge role in the incidence of Childhood Obesity in Vista County, which “Let’s Do This” is striving
First, we are clinicians to which these patients seek for our expertise to address their health problems. Secondly, we are diagnosticians whereby we seek the underlying causes of our patient’s health issues. Third, we are educators to which we help our patients cope and understand their health conditions. And lastly, we aspire to be the catalyst for a positive change in our patient’s concept of wellness and health. And truly, when we achieve our roles as catalysts for change for our patients we exude the transformative power of physical
The Healthy People 2020 initiative gives 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. These objectives are to be met by the year 2020 (healthy people reference). The vision of this health initiative is to help create a society where people live long and healthy lives. People, as defined in the Health Promotion Model (HPM), are organisms shaped by their environment that also have the ability to shape
A society in which all people live long, healthy lives is the vision that Healthy People 2020 has set for themselves. Healthy People 2020 was developed under the leadership of the Federal Interagency Workgroup (FIW). Healthy People 2020 is the framework of an exhaustive collaborative process among the U.S. Department of Health and Human services (HHS) and other federal agencies, public stakeholders, and the advisory committee. Healthy People 2020 provides specific and important areas of emphasis where action must take place in the United States to achieve better health by the year 2020.
The Socio-behaviorist theory (behaviorism) Socio-behaviorists often study how children 's experiences model their behaviors (Nolan & Raban, 2015). Behaviorism believes that what matters is not the development itself, but the external factors that shape children 's behaviors (Nolan & Raban, 2015). This theory demonstrates that teachers and mentors dominate and instruct child-related activities, and they decide what children should learn and how to learn (Nolan & Raban, 2015). Reinforcement, which is an essential factor that helps children to learn particular behaviors, generally refers to rewards and punishments (Nolan & Raban, 2015). Children are more likely to repeat actions that result in receiving praise; in contrast, they may ignore or abandon behaviors that make them get punishment.
I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals. The behavior change philosophy fits my personal philosophy of health education the most because it involves goal setting, behavioral contracts and self-monitoring to help foster the modification of an unhealthy habit. The behavior change philosophy is very important because change is a process, not an event. Self-efficacy and motivation are key factors in successful behavior changes.
I combined how your nutrition is important because it can prevent you from getting sick or becoming overweight and suffering. Lack of nutrition education, marketing persuading consumers to want harmful food, and the healthcare system not being effective all have to deal with why healthy nutrition is not being focused on or accomplished. This topic is important and interesting if you are interested in global healthcare or local healthcare. Each one of the problems can be solved or reduced to focus on the human nutrition or to decrease the rate of deaths due to obesity, heart failures, etc. The research and the 7-step plan, promoting healthier food options, and reduction of pills and helping patients learn about nutrition are all ways to improve the lack of
First, the Social Learning theory is defined as when people or in this case juveniles learn from each other from either observation, imitation, or modeling. The version of this theory
The Biopsychosocial model (Suls & Rothman, 2004) is one of the earliest multi-dimensional models of the health field. This model demonstrates the interaction between biological and social factors in regard to disease analysis. It displays levels above and below a person arranged from global systems at the top and genetic systems at the bottom. In the Social and Behavioral Foundations of Public Health, Coreil (2010) describes how the biopsychosocial is more concerned with the biological systems within the human body and pays greater attention to this interplay. In the case study, Cockerham (2013) details how social conditions act as the ultimate causes of diabetes and diabetes related fatalities in the community of East Harlem.
Social structure and personality perspective primarily focuses on the influences among larger social circumstances and the person within the condition. The social circumstances like a co-worker obtaining a higher status by getting promoted follow the expectations through the guidelines of behavior within certain social situations; it is typically the way that are expected to act when they reside in certain roles and statuses. Due to society’s stability, people who study society can therefore more accurately and reliably predict a persons beliefs, mindsets, and actions in any given setting. There are three principles that can be applied to social structure and personality: components principle, proximity principle, and psychology principle.
It does not explain how people change over time, it does not consider mental and physical changes, and it does not explain all the behaviors. Social cognitive theory does not take in account that something that is a punishment for someone could be seen as a reward by another person. The concepts of this theory are not interconnected to create an organized explanation of behavior. Social cognitive theory has some strengths. It is understandable and accurate, it explains many behaviors, it shows how to integrate social and cognitive theory, and it gives accurate picture about how behaviors are
What is social darwinism? It is a theory individuals, groups, and people are a subject to the same Darwinian laws of nature. It means you need to do what you need to do, to get what you want or need. It is survival of the fittest you either eat or get eaten. You either kill or get killed.
