Slavery, a word that has such a strong past and tie to the United States of America. The one word that provokes mixed feelings from the heart of each person as soon as one dare to utter it out of their mouths. Slavery is a huge topic to touch on that most don’t like to speak of. Especially back then when it was so popular in the south of the United States of America. So when the publication of “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” by Harriet Jacobs and “Recovery of Solomon Northup” from New York Times came to the public you can imagine the mixed feelings it cause for some people. The North of the U.S. have to think about unman or business in this situation.

In addition, I think that some people in the in North would feel bad that young girls are getting raped and used like used goods. For instance, Harriet Jacobs wrote in her book that “I was accustomed to share some indulgences with the children of my mistress” and “My master began to whisper foul words in my ear”. Showing that these young girls were having sex without their will which is the definition of rape.
