Indian Influence By virtue of being from a country of several languages, dialects and religious beliefs, I have experienced and viewed agreements, disagreements, harmonious living, giving in and collaborative existence. People from India are normally very tolerant. This exposure to vast variances helped me become more tolerant, and seamlessly move on the Erik Erikson’s next stage. My own group of friends is diverse from my undergrad school – we were group of three close friends – each practicing different religions – one is a Muslim, one practices Christianity and I am a Hindu. We enjoy each other’s company, festivals and respect each other. Even today, we are in touch – thanks to technology! In my search for that “comfortable” group (also read as “job”), I realized I would have been happier studying Psychology. My Visual Arts class was very competitive and sometime I found that the competition was not healthy. Back biting, de-motivating classmates were the order of the day. On retrospect I find I have been stressed - the negative pressure to ensure that my ideas were not copied, always watching my back, tired me. I am not sure it was the class make up or the course itself. But I know one thing for sure - the Psychology class (same year as mine) was competitive but it was healthy competition. I saw the students collaborate and help each other rather than stand up against each other. And I inherently find Psychology very interesting and fulfilling. Taking Visual Arts was a turning point - since it kind of determined the career I would be taking up. Fortunately for me, I am now doing Art Therapy - which would allow me to merge Art …show more content…

The British improved and modernized India which formed their efficiency that they have today. They established railroads and bridges so people can travel thru their country easier. The British also ingrained a fair trading system between India and British. Some may claim that it was not fair because the Indian textiles were getting sold less and less. From 1790 and so on the sales of Indian textiles progressively declined (Doc. 6).
There are a variety of cultural differences depicted throughout the world. Beliefs systems and social groups in our society today are based on a person’s background history, upbringing, and consciousness. One major aspect of a social group is the study of double consciousness or the internal conflict. The presence of two unconnected streams of consciousness in one individual or experienced by subordinated groups in an oppressive society in comparison to one’s own individuality or the quality that makes one person or thing different from all others. How a person feels about themselves and the intrapersonal relationship that occurs within the individual mind or self has a great impact on a person’s life.
As Jews we are raised to understand the story of how the world came about and where the Jews fit in. This idea has been discussed about from the creation of the world, and the creation of the first humans, until time today. Sometimes we forget some crucial events in the history of the Jews, such as the existence of the 12 tribes or the Tower of Bavel and what affect it had on the world. There are two biblical stores that are important to understanding the Jewish Indian Theory. The first one, the tower of Bavel, tells the story of people determined to build a tower tall enough to reach God.
Patel’s goal is bring people together to explore pluralism and build relationships despite what race or religion we come
Being a first-generation Canadian and when Canada is as diverse as it is, I never got the opportunity to truly connect with my own religion. I realized early on that having that knowledge of diversity provides a competitive advantage in the business environment, as communication and connections are easily built. To accomplish this, I decided to join the International Languages Program in grade 6; however, even with the four years I spent in the program, I never truly built the connection that I had so desired. It was not until grade 12 when I had that opportunity, as David Suzuki Secondary School (D.S.S.S.) introduced its first ever Sikh Student Association (S.S.A.), a collection of numerous Sikhs throughout D.S.S.S. Upon joining this club,
psychology would be my most challenging. All though it my favorite subject it’s not an easy class. I have a really hard time with the terms used in psychology. I got a D on my first text which was very depressing, but now I know what to expect and I now know what kind of notes I should be taking.
At first I wrestled with where my identity lay. The strong values and traditions of the Indian culture sometimes made it difficult to fit in with the crowd. As I grew older, I began to understand that I was not part of an individual culture, but a fusion of two rich and colorful histories. I recognized that there is remarkably more to an individual than where she comes from, and more to her than where she currently lives. Importantly, being from two cultures allows me to incorporate the best qualities of both.
Indian Boarding schools were created in the 1800s to “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” They achieved this by transforming the natives looks, culture, language, and teaching them a certain way so they would be able to function in a “european society”. Indian boarding schools taught students both academic and “real world” skills, but they did so while ripping the indians from their culture. Most indian boarding schools were the same with their tactics in transforming the native man into a white one.
Even though growing up with two different cultures have its benefits, the challenges outweigh them and can potentially bring negative impacts on someone’s quality of life. Firstly, it can be difficult to adjust the changing society norms. The convention and expectations every culture has, which may be dissimilar from one’s own. To
Nigeria has nearly 250 ethnic groups, mostly unintelligent, all of which have different cultures, traditions, and languages, making it difficult for much interaction amongst other groups. With a diverging society, it made it difficult for British representatives to have much interaction with the Nigerians. In addition, Nigeria’s lack of common history, unequal resource distribution, advocacy for regionalism over a strong central government, and geography of each group, all made it difficult for interaction with the British (Haughton Mifflin Harcourt 2017, 907). According to Knight, India has many political, ethnic, racial, and religious groups that cross each other, allowing the society to interact even through differences. For example, not all Indians speak the same language, share the same social class, or live in the same region, although having a connection through common ancestral history or traditions have helped unify the population together which helps the society interact with the British.
Growing up half Indian allowed me to experience a different childhood than most. When I was young I took several trips across the world to India. I got to see a different culture and different society than most children my age. It was an inspiring experience to see how life was on the “other-side.” Learning about two
it is better to ask for help then let stress affect me and my performance in classes. and counseling does really help because I was talking to someone new and they do not know anything about me and talking to a stranger did help me figure out what was wrong with me because I have to tell everything from the beginning and with new different opinion I was able to get over my stress. The eighth thing I learned is to always keep with me a small calendar to write everything down for example, and appointment, test date, assignment due date, etc. That way I would be more organized and get everything down by it due date.
They think studying liberal arts is a future of unemployment and uncertainty. But, it is important to override these belief because of the large opportunity for art majors in the world. My experiences as a child, influences, and mentors have inspired me to study art history at Belmont and I want to share my experiences and knowledge of my process. What drives you to study art and pursue a career in this impressive field?
Reflection By studying American Romanticism, we are able to learn that American literature allows its readers to understand transcendentalist views which led to individuals in American society to realize that everyone perceives the world differently. In American literature, individuals are able to understand the values of transcendentalism in which it illustrates the importance of nature, self reliance, and individuality through essays such as “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau, and Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essays “Nature” and “Self-Reliance”. In Henry David Thoreau’s essay “Walden” he says “ life never the bone where it is sweetest.” This quote suggests the importance of individuality due to the fact that we do not need to change to make others satisfied because we are only truly happy when we are able to accept ourselves. The best part in this unit was to look at an image and listen to the different
Academic Stress: Academic stress among students have long been researched on, and researchers have identified stressors as too many assignments, competitions with other students, failures and poor relationships with other students or lecturers (Fairbrother & Warn, 2003). Academic stressors include the student 's perception of the extensive knowledge base required and the perception of an inadequate time to develop it (Carveth et al, 1996). Students report experiencing academic stress at predictable times each semester with the greatest sources of academic stress resulting from taking and studying for exams, grade competition, and the large amount of content to master in a small amount of time (Abouserie, 1994). When stress is perceived negatively
