The Industrial Revolution brought awful working conditions to those who worked in factories and elsewhere. Working conditions for adults and kids were drudgery. “I am at work in a spinning room tending four sides of warp which is one girl’s work” (Document 1) People were expected to do hard work each day no less. If there was a break it was limited, people were not treated fairly. Breaks were ideally rare in majority of the jobs.“What time was allowed for meals? Forty minutes at noon” (Document 7). Lunch was truly the only meal which isn't enough food to have people functioning for the rest of the nine hours left that they were required to work. Since there was little pay there was little for lunch so the food that was given was not enough.
During Industrialization, many big changes occurred. One major point is that products and goods became cheaper to make, and in return, cheaper for sale. Shortly after factories starting popping up in the U.S., “the production of exports outpaced import of goods, and by the late 1800s America emerged as the world’s largest industrial power” (Doc 3). Before factories, things were made by hand and took time to make. Because of the amount of time it took to produce products, people needed to sell these products at higher prices to make the business worth something.
Many referred to these wages as “starvation wages” because it barely gave them enough money to buy food and clothes for their families (Marsico 14). The Triangle Shirtwaist factory was not at all clean. With the factory not being sanitary many of the workers would get sick. If a worker was to get sick they couldn’t afford to not go to work so they would keep going to working and the sickness would spread to all the other workers in the factory. The workers didn’t have any control over their wages or hours spent working.
By the early 1800’s the industrial revolution had began in the United States. But it did not really start until after the civil war in . When people began to move to cities to work in industries involving mines and factories instead of staying in the rural areas. The three major factors that permitted the united states to industrialize during the late 19th century which are an orotund source of natural resources and raw materials. Some of these were coal, oil, timber, water, ETC.
The Second Industrial Revolution affected the North, South, West, and Midwest in several ways. New unions and laws were introduced. More issues regarding differences in culture and social classes arose. Economies developed greatly with efficient farming technologies and manufacturing industries. Populations had major changes with increased amounts of people in urban areas around cities, and increased amounts of immigrants.
Prior to the Industrial Revolution, in the 16th century, developments within the scientific world were made, this was known as the Scientific Revolution. Developments were made in mathematics, physics, astronomy, and more. These ideas changed the way people viewed science and made room for new innovations which would impact the future. Although the Industrial Revolution had its positive effects, more negative effects came from it, these included, a growing wealth gap between the rich and the poor, disease and contamination, and harsh working conditions.
Between 1800 and 1890 we will see a massive explosion of industrial expansion in Europe and especially in Britain. This explosion is called the industrial revolution and would have massive implications on the rest of history that reverberates today. This industrial revolution would be fueled by the competitiveness between nations and one of the biggest driving forces was Britain. Britain would have a monopoly over the industrialized market of the world for many decades. This is because of Britain’s head start on industrializing with the first steam Engine being invented in England in the early 18th century.
Before the late 1700s, Europe and America were chiefly agrarian rural societies. Most people had small workshops or worked out of their homes in what was called a cottage industry. Innovations such as the Water Frame, Spinning Jenny, and Steam Engine revolutionized the textile industry and culminated in a boost to the economy. These inventions sparked the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in England, and the new technology propelled the country's shift to a manufacturing and urban society. Eventually, the revolution spread to other countries.
The Industrial Revolution refers to a time of greatly increased output of machine-made goods that emerged within the textile industry. The Industrial Revolution, which began in England in the late 1700’s, had a wide range of positive and negative effects on the economic and social life of the people of England. The results of the Industrial Revolution have been interpreted many ways through the various social classes of Britain; the peasants who suffered from the dangers of the factories and tenements and the upper class who benefited from capital and enterprises. The Industrial Revolution was overall a negative thing because if forced childhood labor, caused the environment to fail, and it brought many negative effects onto the people. The Industrial Revolution brought a big change upon the society, one example is childhood labor. Children were forced to work and were often severely injured because of the factory work they were assigned to do. In Document 10 it speaks about how severe these injures can get.
The Industrial Revolution brought about many positive things. During this time society benefitted from making more goods, cheaper labor and overall improved the economy. However, it also had a very negative effect on society. Industrialization’s negative effects were child labor, unequal pay, over populated and poor living conditions. These are the reasons why many people thought the Industrial Revolution was harmful.
he Industrial Revolution overall had a positive effect on happiness in the workplace, village space, and resources for workers. The first example that shows it was positive is that the children were happy and had never been beaten in work. According to the 3rd document it says “They seemed to always be cheerful and alert” this tells me that it was positive because the children never got beat and they were always happy and cheerful to be at work which could cause better work ethic. Another positive thing is that in the village they were given more places to stay and they were fed and clothed.
The work environment was unsanitary and many people were getting sick and or dying. Although, the Industrial Revolution was sad, in the end the western civilization was able to extend their power and become more well
The life of an industrial worker was very hard. Workers had to work long shifts and get paid very little. Some worked ten to twelve hours a day, six days a week, and made less than one dollar per hour. Along with long hours and little pay, there was no regulation for breaks, safety, or age. Due to this, one in eleven workers died on the job.
