The purpose of this project is to study leadership style of two successful companies and two companies that failed because of the ineffective leadership. The companies that we have picked are mentioned below:
1. Nokia
Nokia Corporation is a Finnish Multinational communications and information technology company. It is headquartered in Espoo, Uusimaa, in the greater Helsinki metropolitan area. It is one of the Fortune 500 companies with an annual revenue of €12.73 billion in 2014. The company focuses on large scale telecommunication infrastructure, technology development and licensing .In April 2014, Microsoft acquired the Nokia’s mobile phone business as a part of an overall deal totaling US $7.17 billion.

Thus leader should try and become a part of the solution rather than just giving the problem.

The references for the content are taken from articles from the websites “insead.edu” and the “guardian.com” . The first article is written by Mr. Quy Huy , Associate Professor of strategy who emphasizes mainly on the role Mr. Olli Pakka Kallasuvuo who was the CEO of Nokia Corporations from 2006 to 2010. He further describes his failure as a Leader and the impact of bad leadership on Nokia . The other article is from Ms. Angela Monaghan, from Guardian , who covers the main events yearly, which resulted in the development and downfall of Nokia Corporation.

In one of the articles published by Harvard Business Review, contains a discussion between Peter F. Druker and Mr A.F. Lafley where they talk about the various responsibilities and duties of a CEO of a company. But leadership issues over the years, right from 1980s to the present day, have contributed slowly in the downfall of this giant to gutters. The article talks about this issue in detail by narrating how during the tenures of the different CEOs their mistakes and poor decisions have led to this calamity to the company. Also the different factors such as lack of coherent vision, poor decision making, inability to foresee the future, and make use of technological advancements have been illustrated properly in the article.⁠⁠

• Forbes Article of “Businesses Don't Fail - Leaders Do” by Mike Myatt states the reason for failures of businesses. It points out clearly the list of characteristics which are the reasons of failures, how businesses are impacted by poor leaders.

• Harley Davidson Motor Company
The article on Harley Davidson gives an insight into how good leadership can bring about drastic changes in the fortune of a company. On the verge of an imminent demise, the executives of Harley Davidson, with their proactivity, dynamism, team spirit and sheer dedication salvaged the company from bankruptcy and turned it into a profit generating, stable unit in 6 years’
