Inequality is a big problem in Australian society, including the job market. Even though Australia is a developed country with a strong economy, there are significant differences in job opportunities, pay, and career growth based on things like gender, ethnicity, age, education, social status and technology. Understanding the causes of inequality such as a drive for profitability allows us to work towards a job market that's fairer and gives everyone a fair chance to succeed. Ultimately labour markets are driven by market forces of supply and demand. Inequality significantly impacts the Australian labour markets, manifesting in disparities based on factors such as gender, ethnicity, education, and socio-economic background.

With the automation of manual processes, many individuals working in manual labour find themselves displaced and at a disadvantage. Routine tasks that were once performed by humans can now be efficiently completed by computers, reducing the demand for low-skilled workers. As a result, there is a higher demand for highly skilled workers who can handle complex tasks that technology is unable to perform. This dynamic intensifies the inequality gap as low-skilled workers face reduced job opportunities, while highly skilled individuals experience increased demand and job security. Moreover, technological advancements also affect the income distribution among different skill levels. The reduction in demand for medium-skilled workers, who carry out routine tasks that can be accomplished by machines, relative to both high-skilled and low-skilled workers further contributes to income inequality among full-time workers. Therefore, it is crucial to address these issues by promoting equal access to education and skills training to ensure that individuals from all backgrounds have the opportunity to thrive in an evolving labour market.
