Reflective Journal entry Unit 4 In today’s society, one of the primary objectives is to ensure that staffs working in the various department of the health sector have maximum protection, inclusive of the environment in which they live dwell and play. Therefore, adequate measures must be implemented to extenuated environmental and occupational hazards. The occupational and environmental health takes a multidisciplinary approach as it relates to the correct identification of diseases from exposure hazardous agents in the community of in the workplace.
When my room is in good sanitary condition, my students spread less bacteria around the room. I keep the room sanitized and healthy by making sure i wash my hands as i enter the room, and all those entering the classroom. By washing our hands upon entering, we are lessening the probabilities of bringing outside germs into the classroom. We also make sure that when our friends sneeze, they get a tissue then immediately wash their hands to keep them crispy clean. Upon entering children wash their hands and before and after each meal.
Through the learning from week 1 and week 2, I have learnt that the most frequent adverse event in health-care delivery is health care-associated infections. It is essential for us to follow the infection control practices that both patients and us are at a risk of being infected. Standard Precautions involve the use of safe work practices and protective barriers, for example, the use of personal protective equipment(PPE). At first, I think Standard Precautions are very easy. Everyone knows PPE can protect us from infections and hand hygiene is important throughout the process.
Employees working in pediatrics hospital are supposed to take precautions to protect their patients and staff from exposure to potentially infectious materials. A fundamental component of standard infection prevention measures are a system of barrier precautions to be used by all personnel
The primary prevention is the best way to eliminate the potential for exposure. Since hand washing is the most effective mean of spread of infection, it would be my primary goal to increase the compliance of hand hygiene among healthcare workers, but also an extensive education of patients and family members on hand washing before and after touching the patient as well as afar any contact with any potentially contaminated materials (surface, body fluids or respiratory secretions). Mandatory education of patients, visitors and healthcare workers, across the system as well as cross department compliance practices are single best mean of preventing the spread of infection. For example, every patient and family member can be educated about hand hygiene, use of PPE-personal protective equipment (face mask, gowns and gloves). Although, the practices are already being utilized, I believe the compliance is poorly monitored.
Under work health and safety laws workers and other people at our workplace must take reasonable care that they do not adversely affect
Occupational Health is an area of medicine which concentrates on work-related illness, the effects of work on health and the effects of health on work. Occupational Health seeks to promote positive health whilst working and, in many cases, whilst studying and undergoing work placements. Occupational Health is important as the provision ensures that staff and students undergo appropriate assessments and examinations to ensure that they are not risking their own health, nor the health of their service
Unsafe work practice that can affect the well-being of individuals include: Rough handling, for example pushing, pulling, dragging. Unsafe administration of medication, for example, failure to check dosage. Ignoring health needs and social needs such as clean clothing and personal hygiene. Visible injuries or marks of abuse on body and complaints not taken seriously can put them at more danger, harm and risk of abuse. I will ensure that I keep to all the procedures for checking for abuse and the wellbeing of the individuals that I work with; by following these and the individual’s care plan I keep within the minimum standards of care and also work in a person centred way to make sure all individuals are happy and safe.
For example, if I am ill & have had a sickness bug, I would not go to work for at least 48 hours as I can infect my colleagues & also the patients which would then spread around even more as we are in such a close environment. 4.3 Explain the most thorough method for hand washing. The NHS way of thoroughly washing hands is by using soap & hot water. Staff are expected to wash hands on every contact with a patient & also frequently throughout the day.
I agree Tesheika, Industrial Hygienists have an important role in ensuring that the safety and welfare of workers is a top priority among many businesses and industries. Their job is to enhance worker environments and make them safer, and in doing so make these businesses more efficiently run. Good recordkeeping allows industrial hygienist to form a well-organized understanding of what is known about work environments, what could be improved about an employee’s work conditions and/ or working atmosphere, as well as learn about many issues that may be unknown threats to an employee’s wellbeing. By taking through and detailed notes industrial hygienists are better able to compile accurate exposure assessments and a better understanding of exposures,
I wash my hands regularly, keep my patient’s rooms clean and organized and make sure that my patients have baths daily to prevent infections. F.
The learning objective I chose to further explore was “Explain the role of the industrial hygienist in anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace environments that may affect the health of the worker.” The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) website has a breadth articles on the specific functions of an Industrial Hygienist. The “Informational Booklet on Industrial Hygiene” has been made public for reproduction and serves as a good overview to explain the role of the industrial hygienist. (Herman & Jeffress, 1998)
All workers have a right to work in places where risks to their health and safety are properly controlled. Everyone has a duty to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, including employers, employees, trainees, self-employed, manufacturers, designers, suppliers and importers of work equipment. The employers’ responsibilities under this act include:
On the day of July 16th, 1942 , a horrible event took place. The Vel’d’Hiv Roundup. 4,500 French policemen arrested over 11,000 Jews.
