Libraries are the repositories of humanity’s knowledge. Society creates libraries as institutions to store and make available knowledge, information and to facilitate the enjoyment of literature in all forms. Every library has the major responsibility to provide users with the widest range of information materials relevant to their requirements to enable them solve problems as well as make decisions. Thus, the major pre-occupation of the information professionals is a prerogative to harness all the information resources applying sets of intertwining activities and services to provide value- added information services to users. On close examination, it would be discovered that in the process of accomplishing this seemingly simple task, the information …show more content…
However, libraries still carry out complex information tasks such as information collection, selection, organization of information resources, providing access to collection, reference help and instructional services. These tasks have increased to embrace generations of modern information service activities in the areas of diagnosing needs of potential users and creating information, acquiring and maintaining information, storage, utilization, preservation and conservation (Sharma 2004). Evaluating technology to meet users needs, designing multimedia information resources and examining information seeking pattern of users have been included as part of information services management tasks of the library and information professionals (Grace, 1999; Robertson, 2004; Gordon, 2004).
Edoka (2000) and Aina (2004) have specified information services to incorporate the services directly to the benefit of library users while meeting their information needs. The broad objectives of every type of library are to acquire, disseminate information and ensure maximum use of its resources through its services. The library objectives in return determine the content and the patterns of services of the library (Opara,

As Sacchanand (2000) observed, the explosion of knowledge and information technology has altered the characteristics of the learning environment with dramatic impact on the university library system and the library and information profession. University library practices in the new learning environment are often viewed as the best developed type of library practice in any nation (Levy & Roberts, 2005; Akintunde, 2006) and that these academic libraries must work towards the attainment of this status. Msuya and Marco (2000) link this heavily technologically driven academic learning environment to Open University systems. Other scholars have written on the effect of ICT on socio economic, cultural transformation, impact on library and information science practice in Nigeria (Omekwu, 2001; Ogunsola, 2004; and Salman & Olarenwaju, 2010). Thus as society moves more deeply into the information age, it is important to understand the effect of the new developments on information service delivery and the distinctive characteristics of these services as practised in Nigerian
The library will be housed in a new construction on a vacant space which covers a large portion of the 2601-2699 block of Stadium Drive, approximately 0.2 miles north of the Winthrop Rockefeller building. The Winthrop Rockefeller building is located at 2800 Stadium Drive, and currently houses the entirety of the Ranch Management program, including all administrative and faculty offices, staff and student lounges, as well as auditorium-style classrooms. The Ranch Management program has received a generous grant to allow for the construction of a new building which will house expanded specialized academic collections and research facilities. This new structure will be named the Chisholm Library, in recognition of the historical importance of the Chisholm Trail to the regional cattle industry and local metropolitan growth. The acquisition of this property will extend the current northern boundary of the TCU campus.
The Library’s services, Reserve and e-Reserve, directly affect the student experience and are central to the University’s teaching and learning undertakings. Reserve and e-Reserve are Library functions that relate to supporting the teaching and learning needs of staff and students by providing access to essential and recommended readings used in teaching. Reserve refers to the physical collections housed on Level 2 of the Robertson Library and at the Kalgoorlie Campus Library. e-Reserve refers to creation of an electronic collection of digitised materials that are communicated electronically for the benefit of all enrolled staff and students both at Bentley, other library branches and partner sites. There are 3749 physical items attached to
Most colleges have a library in which scholars are allowed to use and use the resources within. As an online student, going to the college library can be quite the trek. Little known to most scholars, Collin College has a full online library with the same resources as its on campus counterpart. John Leonard is the Distance Learning and Digital Services Librarian at Collin College. In the online orientation, Library Anywhere, Leonard explains that Collin College wants to give online scholars the same resources that any student on campus would have, including a library.
The framework is set of four principles and six standards and each principle and standard is reflected in an information literacy program to achieve desired outcomes for students. The principles pertains to independent learning and that information literate people are able to create knowledge through understanding and information literate people know how to use information can search for information and have a commitment to lifelong learning and knowledge seeking (Bundy, 2004). The six standards of information literacy create the basis for information literacy applications and establish an information literate person (Bundy,

Most libraries also recruit personnel who help the uninitiated to cross over into the digital realm by teaching them the basics of computer use as well as how to navigate the digital domain of the internet. As such, libraries can offer the most personalized and effective form of media education. E.
