As time is the most valuable thing in this modern world having a good reliable internet connection will save the time. Not only that; the quality of the service we get depends on the internet connection we got. There are only a limited number of modes to get connected to internet and out of them on few modes are available in Sri Lanka. 2.1 DIAL UP CONNECTION Dial up Connection is the most commonly used and the oldest method of connecting to the internet. But it is generally the slowest method. A computer with a modem, a telephone line, Internet account obtained from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) are needed in order to connect internet through a dial up connection. Computer dials the number provided by the ISP and connects to the internet. Before the data is sent; the modem, which is used in a dialup connection(56k modem),converts the digital signal from a computer to analogue and those converted signals are transmitted through the telephone lines. And when data is received it is converted to digital signals from the analogue signals. Maximus download speed of dial up connection is about 56KBps.There are some advantages as well as some disadvantages in a dial up connection. The word "DSL" stands for Digital Subscriber Line. According to (2014) DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology for bringing high-bandwidth information to homes and small businesses over ordinary copper telephone lines. DSL provides good faithful circuit between the user and the service provider's main branch or company's central office facilitating a high speed internet connection. The downloading speed or the quality of the service depends on the distance between user and the central office. xDSL refers to different types of DSL like ADSL, SDSL, IDSL and RADSL. Out of these types generally ADSL is used in home networks as well as small scale businesses. So in this report basically only about ADSL is discussed. ADSL is "Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line" in simple terms. According to (2014) an asymmetric DSL (ADSL) connection allows download speeds of up to about 1.5 megabits (not megabytes) per second, and uploads speeds of 128 kilobits per second.
