People should be able to own “assault style” weapons because most people use them responsibly, they are strictly regulated by the government, and people often misuse the word assault rife. People often misuse the word assault rifle when when they are talking about guns civilians have. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, an assault rifle is “any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles with large capacity magazines designed for military use.” The most important part of that definition is that they are used in the military. The only assault rifles that are legal to own are ones that are registered between 1934 and 1986. Out of the 318.9 million people that are in the United States, there are 300 million guns. Out of the 300 million guns that are in the U.S.(3), in the last Eighty years only 2 people are murdered with a legal version an assault rifle(1). the reason that the number is not higher is because of the regulations. first thing is someone have to get a background check. then they have to get a ATF(Alcohol,Tobacco, Firearms) license witch again involves a background check. Then they need to pay two hundred dollars as an ATF tax. and finally they need to select a licensed gun dealer that in the case of their unexpected death the gun dealer can have the gun. there is about 61,562 gun collectors in the united states and a lot of them own a legal assault rifle that they take care of and cherish. they would never hurt anyone with it and almost never let anyone but them shoot it. so according to the news this is your newest criminal and mass shooter in the us. but that is not true. almost 88,000.8 per 100,000 people own a gun and 3.59 of the 100,000 use them for murder. that is less than people think because people always hear abut the murder and never about the law abiding
Gun Control and Mass Shootings in America Gun violence is an unquestionable issue in America, with the United States ranking as one of the worst with both homicides and suicides using guns. That being said, we outnumber Mexico in gun related deaths and among first-world countries we rank far above others in the number of gun deaths, such as England and Australia. Consequently, we live in one of the only first world countries that does not have extensive gun laws and restrictions to gun access. Aside from the countless homicides and suicides by firearm in this country, one particular issue within this predicament is mass shootings, with the most recent mass shooting occurring on February 14th, 2018 at a high school in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed. Although, it may seem like an easy fix to just implement gun control laws into our society to eliminate gun violence, but it is important to note that Americans own nearly half of all firearms globally, which is roughly 325 million guns;
The use of guns as assault weapons has become a disturbing trend in recent years. Assault weapons are designed to be used for military or law enforcement purposes, but civilians are obtaining them for private use. However, they are using them for violent and criminal purposes. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (2019), 36.4 percent of robberies involved firearms, and a portion of those crimes featured the use of assault weapons. Road rage incidents have also become increasingly violent, often involving the use of firearms as assault weapons.
The article “Assault Weapons” supports this claim, “Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines have repeatedly been used to commit some of the worst mass shootings in modern U.S. history, and they contribute to the daily toll of gun violence in communities around the country” (“Assault Weapons”). Assault weapons allow for mass shooters to kill many more people at a faster rate than if they had a different weapon, an assault weapon ban could stop this. Assault weapons are also one of the most common choices for mass shooters and criminals in general. An assault weapon ban could only help America. This is wrong as assault weapons aren’t the most used weapons in mass shootings, for example, "The majority of mass shooters use handguns, and the overwhelming majority of school shooters do not legally purchase their weapons but instead took them from family members" ("Gun Control").
When the criminal is finally arrested, there a dozens of people who have been killed, injured, or fatally injured. All because of one man with a gun. Do you really want your life to be at risk because there is no law banning assault weapons? Do you want to walk down the hallway in fear of someone coming at you with a gun? According to an article from the Washington Post, written by Christopher Ingraham, the president/founder of a public opinions research, the ban on assault weapons lapsed, or expired, in 2004.
Gun Violence Gun Violence has become a serious issue In the United Sates. “According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, 467,321 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm in 2011. In the same year, data collected by the FBI show that firearms were used in 68 percent of murders, 41 percent of robbery offenses and 21 percent of aggravated assaults nationwide.” (NIJ). Most homicides are committed with firearms and the numbers continue to increase.
Just in In the United States itself has been said that a gun has been the top most violent weapon in violent crimes. Just into 2011, 128,900 of crimes were committed with firearms(Klimas). Also in the year of 2014,8,124 murders were used just by fire-arms(Quadl). Gun control is not only entirely reasonable but also certain to be effective. Some of the society needs to recognize in-state Manning fully that legally owning or selling guns only puts another life at risk.
As of 2009, the United States has a population of 307 million people. Based on production data from firearm manufacturers, there are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the United States as of 2010. Of these, about 100 million are handguns. At the 2013 homicide rate, roughly one in every 285 Americans will be murdered in the course of their lives. In the 10-year period from November 30, 1998 to December 31, 2008, about 96 million background checks for gun purchases
Gun control has been a big factor in today’s society, now days it is often to see people getting their lives taken from them due to guns. Having researched one side of the issue, that gun violence had increased over the last year. Having researched the other side of the issue, more gun owners are feeling their rights are being taken little by little. There is no question this is a complicated issue that will require a complicated answer.
California was the first state to ban “assault weapons” after a school shooting in Stockton. A federal ban went into 1994 and since then, eight states have “assault weapons”. However, these laws have had very little significance. This is because these firearms are just ordinary rifles, it is almost impossible for legislators to effectively regulate them without putting a ban on half of the handguns in the country and many hunting rifles. Instead, lawmakers have focused on the cosmetic aspect of the firearm.
These types of weapons only benefit the military and there is no reason for a regular citizen to own a military level weapon. Opponents argue that they can be used for personal protection and recreational use but there is no logical reason to use a semiautomatic gun when you’re just trying to “have fun.” A New York Times editorial argued, “Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership.” As many Americans agree assault weapons are far deadlier than other firearms (Assault Weapons). “From 1984 to 2012, assailants who used large capacity ammunition magazines were able to shoot 161 percent more people and kill 78 percent more victims than those who used a weapon holding 10 bullets or fewer,” Argued Richard Aborn, president of the Citizens Crime Commission in New York (Assault Weapons).
Gun Violence In America Gun violence in america accounted for 33,636 deaths in 2015 alone and that number is only rising. If every american was able to obtain a firearm imagine what the numbers of gun related deaths. Even gun related injuries caused many more hospital visits in america what many other common incidents. That is why america needs to implement tighter gun laws to reduce the amount of gun violence in America. Without this we will continue to see shooting, gun death, gun injuries resulting in more and more gun related violence.
Gangsters might be gone ,but criminals are still around and they use assault weapons for their preference of mass murdering. Assault weapons should be banned. Assault weapons are far more dangerous than other guns. They shoot nearly a thousand bullets in a few seconds. This makes them more deadly than several handguns or other firearms that are not automatic.
There is an estimation that about half of the households in the United States owns at least one gun. As such many people can have access to guns, including children and other family members. Many school based attacks involve young people carrying guns owned by their parents and going on a rage through schools and other places. Similarly, the ease of acquiring guns has led to vulnerable deaths of people across the country. Moreover, this leads obsessed people to escape their frustrations on minorities by murdering and threatening them.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
"In 1990, handguns were used to kill approximately 48 people in Japan, 8 in Great Britain, 34 in Switzerland, 52 in Canada, 58 in Israel, 42 in West Germany and 10,728 in the United States”. For many years, America has been regarded as one of the world’s most perilous and ferocious countries in the world. The death rate caused by active gun shooters in the US is extraordinary: “since 1968, more Americans have died from gunfire than died in … all the wars of this country 's history”. Hence why public ownership of guns should be abolished in the USA. Can you imagine to what extent the death rate in America has increased by now?
