I’ll start of my speech with a little confession, I was a teenage make up diva back then when I was 13. Yea, you didn’t hear me wrong. 13 was considered pretty young during the “MSN and Friendster” era. I was crazy about Seventeen magazine and spend most of my time lingering at the cosmetic aisle at a drugstore near my area in search for the perfect product that would transform me into that confident lovable version of myself. I needed cosmetics to boost my confidence, to cover my flaws and fake my appearance. I had an elaborate morning ritual of skin creams, make-up, hair products and not forgetting, topping everything of with my all-day lasting facial spray so my hard work won’t wear off. Everyone would stare twice, not because it was worth staring but because it was terrifying. Even till today, the lingering side effect can still be seen. But most importantly, guess what I found out? It wasn’t because of the huge quantity of cosmetics I use every morning, but it was because of what kind of cosmetics I was using and the ignorance of the cosmetic industries. The point of me sharing my experience is to tell you that those so called “organic” cosmetic products are not so “organic” after all. The cosmetic industries are hiding “the truth” from us, by using persuasive advertisement, most of the cosmetics that we are using is not as “eco” and “natural” as we think they are and it may even cause harm to both our skin and health. Not that I don’t use plenty of products now, but the old brands are gone in favor of safer alternatives.
