I’ll start of my speech with a little confession, I was a teenage make up diva back then when I was 13. Yea, you didn’t hear me wrong. 13 was considered pretty young during the “MSN and Friendster” era. I was crazy about Seventeen magazine and spend most of my time lingering at the cosmetic aisle at a drugstore near my area in search for the perfect product that would transform me into that confident lovable version of myself. I needed cosmetics to boost my confidence, to cover my flaws and fake my appearance. I had an elaborate morning ritual of skin creams, make-up, hair products and not forgetting, topping everything of with my all-day lasting facial spray so my hard work won’t wear off. Everyone would stare twice, not because it was worth staring but because it was terrifying. Even till today, the lingering side effect can still be seen. But most importantly, guess what I found out? It wasn’t because of the huge quantity of cosmetics I use every morning, but it was because of what kind of cosmetics I was using and the ignorance of the cosmetic industries. The point of me sharing my experience is to tell you that those so called “organic” cosmetic products are not so “organic” after all. The cosmetic industries are hiding “the truth” from us, by using persuasive advertisement, most of the cosmetics that we are using is not as “eco” and “natural” as we think they are and it may even cause harm to both our skin and health. Not that I don’t use plenty of products now, but the old brands are gone in favor of safer alternatives. Thank you all for being here today at the 100th Anniversary celebration to commemorate the bold and rebellious Susan B. Anthony. While creating a revolution when it comes to women’s voting rights, she also made a huge movement when it came to the abolishment of slavery in the United States. In 1848, Susan B. Anthony became a teacher in New York, and became involved in the teacher’s union when she discovered that male teachers had a monthly salary of about $10.00, while most of the other female teachers earned around $3.00 a month.
The pressure to be beautiful is an overwhelming wave that is rushing over the youth of today, particularly with girls. Girls are taught from a young age that in order for them to be worthy they must fit into a narrow, and often unhealthy, mold. Leaving many young girls vulnerable, and searching for a way alter their appearance in order to fit said mold. Covergirl, an American cosmetic brand, capitalizes off of that insecurity. In 2010 Covergirl launched a commercial featuring Taylor swift that utilizes Ethos, Pathos, and Logos; with the goal of persuade makeup wearers to purchase their makeup over other brands.

Well, there is a profession were people listen to others and at the same time, thousands of thoughts are being connected in their minds with a purpose of understanding and helping you. This profession is called psychology, the profession I chose to practice when I grow up and by the end of this speech I will prove to you that psychology is great, that my characteristics match the profession and that I have a plan to follow to get there.
