To be honest, it’s been an honor for me to stand up here in front of those who still care about our environment. Thank you very much for this opportunity that has been given to me to deliver a speech about Biopori, the best solution to handle flood in Samarinda Ladies and gentlemen, have you ever wondered how much trash we produce in a day? I’m sure you would be shocked! According to the World Bank, We produce around 1.3 Trillion Kilograms of Garbage in a year which equal to the weight of about 7,000 Empire State Building. Furthermore, Most of the total garbage comes from organic trash which contributes 44% of those 7,000 huge …show more content…

What is actually Biopori? Biopori is water infiltration method that addressed to overcome puddles by increasing the absorbing power of ground. This method was invented by Mr. Kamil S. Brata, a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Soil Science and Land Management in Bogor Institute of Agriculture. Biopori formed as a cylindrical hole in a vertical way to the ground. This hole will trigger the emergence of soil naturally in ground. This method is the best thing to do to overcome the flood because: Firstly, It is Simple. We only need to make a about 100 cm hole in a place that vulnerable of emerging puddles and fill it up with organic material. Secondly, it’s cheap. That’s because we can get it from trash, dead leaves, or anything that is organic material and the last one is eco-friendly. It produce a waste into compose without any harmful material. According to the data of Bogor Institute of Agriculture, It has been proven that Biopori has many important benefits for environment especially to overcome flood problem. Firstly, it can make absorbing power of ground increasing significant so it can handle flood when the rain comes. Secondly, it effectively reduce inorganic trash and can turn into compost which is catalysis for plants growth.
