The future of same-sex marriage has long been a question in the United States; on June 26, 2015, under the U.S. Supreme Court decision of Obergefell v. Hodges, the country finally got an answer. In a five to four decision, the Supreme court determined that under the Fourteenth Amendment, marriage between same- sex couples is legal in all fifty states. Under this decision, states that had previously banned same-sex marriage will have to recognize and permit same-sex marriage within their boundaries. The U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges is a landmark decision that will not affect same-sex couples throughout the nation, but also every aspect of our society. Having been hired by a sociologist who wants to study the effect of

As there isn’t one particular reason why a human may be homosexual, There are theories why homosexuality occurs in behaviourism, social learning theory and psychoanalysis. Social Learning theory suggests sexuality is learned through symbolic interactionalism and there is three parts in shaping sexuality , our social norms and history, our relationships and a persons expectations. The seduction hypothesis is also part of social learning theory and suggests that an older person may seduce a younger person into homosexuality. this is because social learning theory states that our peers influence our behaviours due to this many homosexuality trials in the Victorian era across the UK including one which led to the imprisonment of Oscar Wilde were influenced by the seduction hypothesis.
Within the scope of Gay rights, same-sex marriage has been widely debated as a controversial issue as to whether or not marriage is a constitutional right for all individuals. For some, the idea that same sex couples have the same matrimonial benefits as heterosexual couples has been purely a question of civil rights. Others have seen same-sex marriage as a moral question, and concluded that such union violates traditional matrimonial values based on religious beliefs. The subject matter of legal benefits and the creation of family have also been at the center of this controversial debate. In “My Amendment” by George Saunders he tries to convey his logic behind same sex marriage and how it’s perceived in society.
In the article “For Gay Marriage,” author Andrew Sullivan claims that denying the act over the controversial issue of legalizing marriage to homosexuals is the most offensive act pertaining to their communal tolerance. The main plea amplifies that the religious customs, state affairs, and the accustomed marriage is noted as acceptable in today’s society. Sullivan states that he is not getting into what churches do in their open biblical session, but what he believes the state should be more involved and take action to fix the social acceptance among homosexuals. By putting together that homosexuals should have the same basic rights as heterosexuals including marriage sparks the author to suggest that homosexuals are just as financially independent
Many thanks for the people visiting us here at the London School of Economics and Political Science. We appreciate your stay and would like your engagement in my speech. We live in an exciting new time where we people interact more and more with each other. Our world looks drastically different than it did two hundred years ago, were Britain first started to set the multi-cultural gears in motion with our ancestor’s colonization and international trading with the world. I am proud to be here two hundred years later, studying international economics at a school thriving with many new people from all around the world.
Sexual orientation is a challenging subject for those who have no viable knowledge with the matter. For those who deal with sexual orientation confusion, coming to terms with oneself is a challenge. For those who are homosexual, and grow up in the Catholic Church, are subjected to gay conversion therapy to rid them of their sins. Gay conversion therapy is the act of treating homosexuals as though they are diseased of the mind and must be cured of their illness, their homosexual thoughts. Homosexual boys and men are either forced into conversion therapy or make a voluntary choice to attend because they were raised to believe their sexuality is unnatural.
This was possibly an attempt to appeal to logos, as O’Brien was trying to make the point that if the government passed the law that eventually people that are currently against gay marriage would come around once they see that it would have little to no effect on their lives. Lastly O’Brien uses statistics from The Bouverie Centre to reassure readers that the opinion she has persuaded them of is true. This is possibly the strongest part of O’Brien’s whole article, despite it not having reference to a particular study as it provides statistical information on the family lives of gay couples in Australia. This is a somewhat strong logical appeal although it would be stronger if O’Brien would have looked at the statistics of heterosexual couples as a parallel to established both sides of family lives and in particular the longevity of relationships. To conclude her piece O’Brien bookends with another attempt to appeal to ethos by using emotive language such as ‘bizarre social experiment’.
This analyses that same sex couples should also have the right to marry. One of the reason why the supreme court sided with Loving was because “Decisions about marriage are among the most intimate that an individual can
From an early age the Christian religion has generally condemned homosexuality. As society progresses, so do the attitudes of many Christian denominations towards homosexuality. There have been numerous changes and movements regarding homosexuality in history that have helped with the progression of many Christian’s thoughts on homosexuals. There have been three major gay rights movements in history, the Homophile movement, Gay and Lesbian Liberation movement, and the LGBT movement. These three movements and the changes that occurred during them have helped change millions of people’s views on homosexuality in a positive way.
Just as disturbing is the readiness by which society has accepted the validity of homosexual marriage. In living memory its associated practice was abhorrent in the eyes of decent citizens; whereas nowadays its normalization and full social acceptance is a fait accompli. We feel like asking our fellow citizens what Paul asked the Galatians: who has bewitched you? So what happens to any society that loses its moral compass? It is foolish to assume that the public and political leaders will ultimately know when to put the brakes on; that they are bound to say at some stage: this far and no further.
It has been proven over and over that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. It is not a disease, it is not the result of trauma, and it will not bring harm unto people. Homosexuality is perfectly normal and natural, therefore programs such as D.A.R.E would not be at risk because they have reason to be there. If a program has evidence, and an actually need to be initiated, it will still be legal. Conversion therapy should be banned because it is as harmful as it is useless.
Joey Cho Mrs. Middleton English 10 17 October 2016 Persuasive Research Essay Outline Introduction LGBT/ same-sex marriage is one of the most heated and controversial debates in our current society. Unlike the past thousands of years whereas marriage was defined as a legal union between a man and a woman, now the concept of marriage has been extended to a broader context. “Homosexuality” in most cultures is viewed as a disgrace, and it is often considered as a great sin from a religious aspect.
Gay marriage is an import issue to debate. Although the congress approved a resolution about that topic, some people still think it cannot be accepted. Especially in many Asian countries and some countries in Europe, in their opinion, homosexuality is an illness, and Gay Marriage is absolutely illegal. However, in 1990, WHO (World Health Organization) eliminated the homosexuality illness out of the disease list. According to them, they said that it was the natural sexual desire, but some people cannot accept that.
Homosexuality was once considered sacred in ancient Rome, albeit being treated poorly since the middle ages. Like this, homosexuality has been suppressed for a long time and thenceforth, the public opinion towards it has been on a downward road until recent years when LGBT groups started stepping up front and coming out along with the increasing controversy towards their rights. The subject of homosexuality has always been polemical. Every once in a while a news article would come up saying something like "Manny Pacquiao provokes storm by calling gay people ‘worse than animals’" or "Sam Smith Talks Coming Out As Gay".
