Using tanning beds before the age of 30 increases the risk of getting the deadliest skin cancer (Melanoma) by 59 percent (Hughe, D. 2012).Yet still, there is the question of, “ Should teens be allowed to use tanning beds?”. Tanning has proven to contribute to developing skin cancer, so tanning dramatically increases the chance of developing cancer. Also, the color skin turns from indoor tanning can be quite unnatural and it can be very obvious that the person had gone indoor tanning based on the color of their skin. To add, the conditions of the tanning beds are not as sanitary as people may think. The beds can have all the germs of the people who tanned there before because the beds are not being cleaned regularly. Teens should not be allowed to use tanning beds because of skin cancer
Today I'm going to talk about An Australien alternative rock band called This is serious mom also know as TISM
Attention Getter: There is an unexplained increase in skin cancer among people under the age of forty. 30 million people visit an indoor facility each year according to the indoor tanning association. That is 10 percent of the U.S. population voluntarily exposing themselves to UV radiation which causes cancer. UV radiation is a form of energy from natural and artificial sunlight. Excess amounts can cause damage to DNA in the skin. Although some argue tanning is good for you because it helps form a “base tan” and the UV exposure time is controlled. The truth is, each time you lay in a tanning bed, it increases the risk of developing skin cancer
On an average day there are about a million people who go tanning on a regular basis, and of those million people, most are younger, between the ages of sixteen and twenty-nine (Hochman). People who use tanning beds before age of thirty-five have a seventy-five percent increased risk of developing melanoma (Fellingham). There are approximately 65,000 new cases nationwide of melanoma and about 9,000 deaths each year from the most preventable disease (Salsberg). Researchers said that there is a death every hour because of melanoma
According to Miner, “Women bake their heads in small ovens for about an hour” (505). The student of this article thought up an oddly similar practice that both women and men of North American society do willingly, visit tanning salons. The men and women who go to tanning salons willingly lay inside of what is seemingly an oven lined with ultraviolet lights. Never had it ever come to the students attention as to how weird of a practice that is until he read the quote mentioned previously in this paragraph. There are obvious health risks when assuming position inside of what is essentially an oven lined with ultraviolet lights. One health risk being overexposure to ultraviolet light, greatly increase the possibility of being diagnosed with skin cancer. Yet, the North American society is willing to “look good” at the cost of potentially dying of a skin related disease. In this case, the people of North America are showing the same ignorance as the women of the Nacirema people who bake their heads in small ovens for roughly an
Imagine entering your local food store and seeing that items most people eat everyday have been discontinued. Items such as coffee, apples, cucumbers and honey are no longer available to consumers. This may not be possible in our generation, but one day it could very well happen.
What’s your thought on tanning? Do you think tanning in a salon isn’t harmful? Do you think tanning outside is more harmful. Tanning indoors or even tanning outdoors is very harmful to you. With outdoor tanning you can prevent the intake of UVB and UVA rays by properly using sunblock but in tanning beds you cannot. Tanning beds should be called coffins. Tanning beds emit more UVA rays and the longer UVA rays penetrate the skin deeper. They also break down collage and elastic tissue and this causes rapid aging of the skin. You may think you look good when you are tan but you certainly won’t when you skin become very wriggled and saggy. The shorter UVB rays cannot reach this deep but they can cause mutation in DNA of skin cells in the higher
We, as a species have a hard time admitting when we are wrong. How do you live with something that has no cure? Sure, they have medication and counseling that can help subdue the problem for a short time being, but, it’s always there, haunting the corners of your mind. Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD is a somewhat commonly known. People sort of know what it is, but that doesn’t mean that they completely understand what it is. The problem is more People believe the myths of ADD, such as, ADD is more about a lack of willpower, when in factuality, it is so much more complex than simply not wanting to focus. It’s not that I don’t want to focus, it’s that I physically can’t at certain times. There is something wrong, chemically, with my brain.
I 'm not quite sure if people know the importance of prom to a high school teenage girl. Everything has to be perfect. Everything has to be exactly the way it was imagined. Everything has to be perfect and if one thing is wrong, then everything is wrong. The dress, the shoes, the hair, the makeup, everything will be planned out, and executed like a crucial military mission. My junior year prom I had everything like the perfect dress professionally done makeup and hair, the perfect shoes and the corsage complimented my dress beautifully, but there was one thing I seemed to be missing. I was in the main entrance to the Monarch Hotel while everyone was admiring the beautiful decorations and absorbing the exciting and thrilling vibes, I was noticing how pale my skin was compared to most girls in the room. I had not even thought about tanning before prom. Flash forward a year and I determined to be tan for my senior prom. There are
Our skin protects us from hot and cold temperatures, as well as infection and the rays of the sun. However, it, too, can become damaged by these things and you need to take precautions
A. Restate Thesis to remind the audience of your position: It can be said from the previous examples that global warming and climate change are both caused by human emission of greenhouse gases which result in consequences such as warmer temperatures and severe natural disasters.
As we already know UV (aka sunlight and artificial UV lighting) can cause forms of skin cancers. It seems to be common sense now days but we really don’t know how or why specifically and we also don’t really know what preventative measures actually work. As we grow up every day we expose ourselves to sunlight but unless we are going out to the beach or pool, we don’t take preventative measures to keep our skin safe from radiation and some are even attempting to do the complete opposite for beautification. After reading a few articles and doing some research on my own I have reached a valid argument to explain a few reasons why preventative measures need to be taken. In this essay I will first explain how radiation is bad for you skin and why we need to take these measures to fight for our lives.
Attention-getter: How many of you been around people who are smoking in public places? Probably, most of us have at least noticed people smoking in CMU campus even it is a non-smoking campus. Secondhand smoke is really harmful to anyone who inhales it in. As smokefree.gov stated, the smoke “contains over 7,000 harmful chemicals, at least 250 of which are known to damage… [ones] health.” Also, the secondhand smoke “can… stay in the air for several hours after somebody smokes.” Therefore, it is harmful to secondhand smoke.
By the end of my speech, 212 underprivileged children around the world would be clenching their stomach and wobbling from garbage dumps to garbage dumps, searching for half- eaten food. 5 children in India would leave school to work in a dilapidated undergarment factory for 14 straight hours, enduring whipping, and pain just for 3 bowls of rice. 3 children in Africa would be dead after being beheaded by heartless invaders. The power to change this situation lies with every one of you present today. Basic necessity such as food, basic education, security are few of many things that underprivileged children lack. As my speech continues, I would firstly, convince you on why underprivileged children need more help than ever. Secondly, I will show you how you can help them and why we cannot afford to not help
Smoking has been a long time habit round the world. However, in the past, smoking cigarette was very popular and known to be a cool recreational drug, and was widely accepted by the community across the world. Today smoking has been less widely accepted and more restricted because of the many health risks that are linked to smoking cigarette. These days, people are well educated and more knowledgeable about the health risks of smoking. Therefore, smoking popularity has been in sharp a decline in the past decade. Smoking cigarette is more than just an addiction; it is one of highest cause of death in the world than any other causes.
