In ‘Institutional Ethnography…’ by Janet M. Rankin and Marie Campbell, an analysis is completed on the institutional ethnography of nurses’ work in Canadian hospitals. Health care policymakers and administrators are currently implementing an updated system that will promote the efficient use of resources and delivery of care. However, the analysis finds that the organization of efficiency competes with the nurses’ professional judgment while standardizing nurses’ decision making process, delivery of care, and knowledge.
Ethnographic research reveals that in the social network Facebook the users real life identity tends to change and be reflected differently through their digital identity. These changes in an individual's identity can be seen by looking at examples of behavioral characteristics. In this analysis we will focus our research on the characteristics of the users fame, how they portray their lives and dishonesty. We have all heard the common saying that having fame and money changes people, but does this fame also change an individual's digital identity? When looking at celebrities Facebook accounts we can see that the content often appears to be filtered and deemed more appropriate to its viewers.
The “Outsiders” made me think about the rules that groups give us are strongly founded on what they see as defiance. It made me think that some rules are given within a group are not remotely necessary and that we as a society are to blame for what is deemed as “socially acceptable”. Deviants may not even be actually deviants but that’s what they are labeled by society because they think, what the deviant did was wrong, which could be made up by what society thinks is okay behavior. The relation to this reading and the sociology course shows how society controls us and how they consider we should act. It reminded me of how society tells us as women that showing off our body parts is deemed as trashy and not lady like, but men can do so without
Shared governance is an innovative model used to provide direction for the professional practice of nursing. This model is used to direct nurses to participate in unit-based decision making that allow nurses to demonstrate accountability and ownership for their practices. The goal of the model is to improve quality patient care contain costs, and retain nursing staff. According to Marquis and Houston (2012), “In shared governance, the organization’s governance is shared among board members, nurses, physicians, and management” (p. 270-271). Shared governance is imperative in the healthcare institutions.
The Canadian Constitution holds jurisdiction over the organization of Canada’s health care system. Roles and responsibilities are divided between the federal, provincial and territorial governments. (1) At a national level, several intergovernmental, nonprofit organizations have been established in the past decade to improve overall system governance by monitoring and reporting on health system performance; disseminating best practice in patient safety initiatives; and providing information on health and health care, and standardizing health data collection. (2) Nongovernmental organizations that play important roles in system governance include the professional organizations such as the Canadian Medical Association, the provincial regulatory

Since archaic times the concept of humanity has intrigued scholars. Eventually this curiosity led to the formation of what is now known as Anthropology, the study of humans. In the article “On Ethnographic Sincerity” by John L. Jackson Jr the author discusses how different anthropological perspectives incorporate humor and sincerity to ensure original findings. Another article, “Social Responsibility and the Anthropological Citizen” by Barbara Rose Johnston brings attention to praxis issues while at the same time she puts emphasis on the power of discourse. Both articles politicize the discipline by establishing ethical codes.
Because in ethnography, you have small sample size, enormous amounts of time and money to collect the data, it is not always feasible in a healthcare setting. Although, ethnography is not always the best method, it is a useful qualitative approach for particular types of research. Ethnography is a way to learn patient’s views regarding their experience in the illness or delivery of service of the
My ethnography and fieldwork takes place at Loafers Bread Company in Wexford, Pennsylvania. The business is located in Wexford Plaza, along with many other restaurants and shops. I chose this company for my ethnography because two of my good friends from high school work there and I decided it would be interesting to see what it was like as they are always talking about Loafers. It was easy to establish contacts because I had my friends there to help me out and introduce me to the others. My first encounter with the group went well.

The session involved a young person named Gabriel, his diagnosed with severe Autism spectrum disorder. Whilst observing Phoebe, during this session, she noticed that he was not interacting with any of the staff, he would just move around and do his own thing. Phoebe stated that Gabriel would have epileptic fits (Caldwell, 2007), these are seizures that they go through depending on the area of the brain affected (NHS 2014). Commemorating Gabriel’s movement and interactions, it conveyed that he struggles to communicate with the world, this is due to the words come in scrambles which impact the reality which he does not understand. He is the only student in the college that has an individual programme made for him.
A Political Sociological View of State Government in Montana My sociology background has given me a unique perspective on situations during my summer internship in the Montana Governor’s Office. By making observations about events around me using a political sociological lens, I often thought of questions I would not have had without my educational background. When I needed to choose a topic to discuss at length, I was pleased to find I remembered many of these questions I could answer for my paper. Unfortunately, what was more challenging than thinking of questions was narrowing my focus down to just one.
Kaidence Vaughn BSN 415: Sentinel Hospital Professor Yvonne Myette July 28th, 2023 Introduction As the charge nurse at Sentinel Hospital, I hold a critical and rewarding role in overseeing and coordinating the nursing staff and patient care. This position brings a mix of emotions, from a sense of responsibility and pride in contributing to patient care and unit efficiency to moments of stress and pressure in ensuring tasks are appropriately assigned and nurses are adequately supported. Open communication plays a pivotal role in this role, as I strive to maintain clear lines of communication with the nursing team, addressing their concerns, and providing necessary support to foster a cohesive work environment. In this reflective essay, I will delve into my experiences and the lessons learned concerning delegation, caseload management, and advocacy, as well as explore the positive impacts and potential areas for improvement in my practice.
The responsibilities of doctors, nurses, and other staff members within a hospital have increased, the need for interdependence among the whole staff and another support has increased. When there is a mistake made in health care with consequences, the failure of interdisciplinary communication is often to blame. In this journal a questionnaire of 10,022 staff nurses within 32 hospitals in England explored the relationship between interdisciplinary teamwork and nurse autonomy on patient care. Stated within the article “Key variables of nursing autonomy, control over resources, relationship with doctors, emotional exhaustion, and decision-making were found to have a significant correlation with one another”, with that being said patient care
In many instances, it can be rather difficult to derive an explanation as to why some individuals are prejudiced or discriminatory. However, by applying the sociological perspective, one can analyze why some individuals assert this kind of aggression and/or negativity towards minority groups. Through socialization, individuals are able to observe and imitate behaviors of others (Major, 2015a). Due to this, prejudiced and discriminatory can be learned through one’s socialization (Major, 2015e). One can examine how one’s upbringing can affect his or her attitude towards another racial/ethnic group – like the White male who was prejudice against my mother and me for example.
Ethnography is the study of social interactions, behaviours, and perceptions that occur within groups, teams, organisations, and communities. The central aim of ethnography is to provide rich, holistic insights into people’s views and actions. (Reeves et al, 2017). The term ethnography has come to be equated with virtually any qualitative research project where the intent is to provide a detailed, in-depth description of everyday life and practice. Qualitative research can be described as social science research in comparison to quantitative research is statistically orientated research (Hoey, 2017).
