Reasons for Integration
Despite the multitude of adverse reactions to technology integration in the classroom, there are numerous reasons why it is necessary to adopt technology into the art curriculum. Technology can help today’s youth learn in ways that are more aligned to how their brains have developed cognitively, offer opportunities for students who may have viewed art as inaccessible in the past, and provide an outlet for sharing their art on a much larger scale. The digital age has changed the way human brains are wired to absorb information (Black, 2009). Today’s students have grown up in a very visual culture. Learners spend their lives inundated with visual stimuli and the brain has adapted to process all of the information

This makes sense in many cases since these teachers are often the ones found in classroom computer labs to teach accounting, marketing, and general introductory business courses. However, in a visually-centered world it may be beneficial for art teachers to act as a conduit for technology related practices for other teachers in their schools (Mayo, 2007). Lin (2011) provides a case study in which a high school art teacher became a champion for technology in the classroom. The study analyzed the work of William Blidy, an art instructor at Newark Community High School in a small Midwestern town. In this school, technology is a major focus for administration, faculty, and students and is visible in all classes. Blidy stated, “School support can significantly affect an art teacher’s use of technology.” He was motivated to explore technological avenues available to him with the support of his school superintendent, other staff, and his students. He discovered an aptitude for technology integration for himself and teaches other educators ways that they can include technology into their curricula, as well as acts as the webmaster for the school website. Art teachers are ideal for leadership roles in school technology because they can instill the importance of aesthetic quality when sharing with other teachers the benefits of technology integration (2011, p.
In “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” David Gelernter suggests the limit of technology use in the classroom. Over that past several years, technology has advanced quite a bit. This new outbreak of technology is beneficial in some ways but Gelernter feels that technology is replacing the ways of teaching. He sees the significance of the subject and offers much visual analysis which helps the reader take more caution in using technology while in the classroom. Gelernter feels that technology builds a wall that enables students to build strong, basic skills.
The Benefits of Technology in School in a Technological Society The Tennessean published Lisa Fingeroot’s article, “Nashville schools push for more technology,” in November of 2012. She discussed the benefits of technology that include, making learning fun with its inclusive methods, Fingeroot believes technology can improve the quality of education nationwide, and provides a very interactive and personal way for students to learn. She states that Kecia Ray, executive director of Metro schools’ learning technology department and president-elect of International Society for Technology in Education, has the goal of presenting a plan that provides technological access to more students. The first thing a reader notices to an article is the title.
The author argues that in order for computers to be used to help students improve learning within the classroom, it is up to teachers and educational institutions to transform their teaching strategies to mirror the technology they require students to purchase. Generally, in most professions, people tend to respect their peers’ opinions and ideas. The connection that the author has to his fellow teaching peers appeals to his authority and sense of character. Having experience as a teacher gives Justin Reich credibility. He states that “As a teacher, I can confirm that most of us love to be the center of attention, and laptops threaten our fiefdoms.”
Graff and Birkenstein argue that ‘the influence {of technology on education} is neither disastrous…..nor wonderfully revolutionary.’ They argue that However, there are a number of ways of technology can be used for good on education. Enhanced teaching is a common way. There are concepts that are better taught through illustration than dry theory.
Many of the older generation of teachers in my school building struggle to keep up with the current technological advancements of today’s classroom but have test scores through the roof each year. Although I am a technology lover, and hobbyist, I rarely use technology in my pedagogy. This response was fascinating to me. I had never considered that placing expectations, or criterion, on potential teaching candidates can eliminate quality candidates from consideration. While technology, and other aspects of the teaching profession have their value, nothing is more valuable in a school setting than a teacher who knows how to teach.
Because technology is part of student interest, the U.S. Department of Education believes that student interest and motivation during the learning process has improved because of the integration of technology. Because the students are so fascinated with technology, their interest remains active and test scores rise. With this, teachers can then move forward and incorporate visual support and tech centered activities that can encourage students to gain successful knowledge and
Teacher technology support within the XYZ school district is essential to integrate available technology tools into the curriculum effectively (Helms, 2014). While this school district is making considerable progress in incorporating technological resources within the curriculum effectively, a need exists for further development in leveraging technology within the curriculum (GaDOE, 2008). In 21st Century classrooms, electronic hardware and software can support numerous resources for differentiated lessons to students with access to these resources
This article presents a qualitative study done to find out how teachers are integrating the arts in their classrooms. Data was gathered through personal experiences, teacher interviews, classroom observations, focus groups and written tests. The arts are extremely important to the development of the child as they encompass many disciplines and promote higher levels of thinking. However, arts can easily be devalued simply by the way that teachers/administrators present them to the students either in the form or decoration or a meaningfully constructed piece of art. The author attempted to answer a single research question: How do teachers understand, implement and experience Arts Integration?
In today’s modern society technology plays a huge role in everyday life. Technology has a big position in education. Today students use laptops for school on an everyday basis to take notes, work on assignments, and research. Many people agree that, when it comes to education, technology can either be very harmful or very helpful. Timothy D. Snyder, a history professor at the University of Yale has written five award-winning books.
After the school visit and meeting with several teachers, I have answered the eternal questions of arts-integration; should arts integration be used to demonstrate what students have learned or should it be used to teach the skill. Today, my position is that arts-integration should be used in conjunction with modeling and traditional teaching strategies. It should expound knowledge, abstract thinking, and real world applications. The artful project and “artful thinking” should be invoked at the same time to deepen how students grasp and
Ms. Hayes believed that technology offers the opportunity for teachers to become more collaborative and extend learning not just into classroom but out the classroom too, so she thought most teachers like more technology in their classrooms, and roughly some of educators lack the training especially over fifty is one of the biggest barriers to incorporating technology into their teaching. She explain that the education institutions responsible to create a training programs that support educators to be capable of selecting, evaluating, and using appropriate technologies and resources. They also should pay special care to make sure that educators understand the privacy and security concerns associated with technology.
Development Of Teaching Aids During my extensive experience I have consistently striven to develop and improve teaching aids and teaching resources. This is a critical element in my own reflective practice and continual professional development. I have designed visual boards (A1) for the basic elements of art to give visual examples and illustrations to assist in teaching these important principals and to show clear examples. In each department that I have worked in I have always assisted in the collection and acquisition of both primary and secondary visual resources for teaching art. I have also developed teaching aids by using technology in the classroom to assist in the teaching of art and design.
However, this integration requires a catalyst for progress; teachers are the bridge between technology and curriculum and the most successful teachers in the 21st century will be those who understand technology and mold their curriculum around it,
( FINAL ESSAY JUST PARAPHRASE ) It goes without saying that technology will improve the learning path, makes education simpler and more enthusiastic. Using technology in education allows students to learn through internet, which makes it easier for them, also it has a positive influence on their academic performance. In today’s modern world, it is a successful investment to invest money in integrating technology in education.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) are a large part of the current generation’s lifestyle, and include such modern-world aspects as constant connection to information, as well as connectedness to sociability (Roehl et al., 2013). Considerations such as these highlight the fact that teachers should be aware of the benefits of implementing ICT use and multimodality into the curriculum. Prensky (2001) points out that: “Our students have changed radically. Today’s students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach.” (para. 1).
