In the past 18 months, I have continued to shadow various physicians across a variety of specialties that serve different communities. Each time, I am amazed at their ability to heal patients with various ailments. This sense of wonder leaves me wanting to learn more and motivates me to eventually become a physician that has the ability to heal all of these patients as well. In addition, I have shadowed physicians for their full twelve-hour shifts, so I have seen all of the aspects of the career. Though there may be some less desirable aspects, such as the required time spent completing charts, I realize the importance of it.
It is clear that coaching has an immense role in assisting and building remarkable workplaces and great organizations. It is notable that people who want to achieve their goals in due time face some challenges in their way. Coaching is the entire process of assisting individuals develops their ability to think about things such as people, relationships, problems, customers and the future. It remains clear that coaching assists people to unleash their full potential (Fletcher, 2012). Coaching helps individuals concentrate on the things that make them get stuck and then overcome them.
In utilizing the instructional strategy, based on the social cognitive theory - lecture, quiz, games, and brain storming, the function shifts to an instructor, teacher, manager, and administrator. The function also shifts to a consultant or resource person to all the other members of the team – the Dietitian/Nutritionist, the Licensed Vocational Nurse, and the Fitness Instructor. The role also involves acting as a communicator, reporter, and advocate for health to the community. I can honestly say that nutrition was not my first choice, or at least I thought it was not my first choice; for the past few years I always assumed that physical therapy was my future career. I spent my four years of undergrad studying Exercise and Sports Science because I wanted to learn every aspect of the human body, the biomechanics, physiology and even the human psyche of how the body interacts and ways to improve upon so that I can become a good physical therapist. During this time and actually before attending college, I was always in self-awareness of my body, nutritionally and physically. Consciously aware of what I was allowing into my body and making an effort to be physically active was a life hobby for me, little did I know that this was an immense stepping stone for what I was truly meant to be. On a regular basis, to stay fit and healthy, I would research healthier alternatives, exercise programs and preventative measures.
I try to think of myself as a person that puts an emphasis on health and maintaining a good physical condition overall. I drag myself to the gym daily and try to eat as healthy as possible. The eating part being the hardest thing to accomplish. I have spent a fair amount of time reading on what to eat and not to eat. I have noticed that for every positive review on any supplement or food item there is a negative review as well, and sometimes I discover a power food item that everyone is drinking or using.
No one can deny that stress can be caused by many reasons. For instance, you may not like your job, money matters, quarrel with your boy or girl friend, stress is something that you cannot avoid. When contemplating meal choices, I concentrate on low calorie, low fat, and low cholesterol options. I opt for dietary foods containing whole grains, healthy fats, calorie dense, and fresh ingredients. Rather than looking to a fast food chain or grabbing the nearest choice, I research the food I plan to consume and take time to compare my choices.
