The main purpose of doing this project is evaluating the company Vipp. We are going to analyze and evaluate the basis of the company’s internal and external factors, core competencies, competitive advantages and the company’s structure.
Vipp is a family company with a traditional background. It was founded by the young Holger Nielsen, who after winning a car, decided to sell it and invest money to create a pedal bin. It became very popular among doctors and hairdressers, because of its practical utility. After Holger’s death, his youngest daughter, Jette, decided to develop the company. For question number two we are going to evaluate their DNA, what are they good at and how are they working in their field of business. We would look at the advantages and the positive sides of their businesses and core competencies.
3. Describe, discuss and evaluate Vipp’s external environment
For question number 3 we would look at the external environment of the company – evaluating and analyzing their technology, external market, financial resources, raw materials, human resources, economy, industry, socio-cultural development and international market. At the same time we would evaluate opportunities and threads using a SWOT analysis.

During one summer a big Vipp trash can in the colors of the rainbow was placed in front of the Copenhagen City Hall trying to support equal rights. Unfortunately to build the value chain we would need a more thorough investigation on the TJ’s processes and arrangements. In my opinion to make the proper investigation of the resources gaps and missed capabilities it is required to be very familiar with the company’s organizational aspects and business process. But due to the fact the company does not publish any investor reports and is has never gone public (Stock Exchange or Private equity funding). In my opinion the Porter’s tool such as Value chain analysis in this case has disadvantages comparing to Grant’s simple approach to resource management and strategic planning.

This reminds me of the time when we were doing group work that I realized that most of my group members were not motivated to do the assignment.
