There has been a drastic increase in the process used in researching into the factors that play a role in the choices made by students as to which Universities they will like to study outside their home countries and this factors and are influenced by the globalization and the competitive nature of University Education. (Soutar & Turner, 2002; Petruzzellis & Romanazzi, 2010). Due to this competitive nature of the University Education, it has become more like a business entity and a field where marketing was not existing has now become remarkably one of the sectors that has marketise their activities.
Many have argued that Globalization and Internationalization are two different ideas. Scott (2000) argued that internationalization and globalization

Among the many who applied consumer behaviour theory to education was Chapman (1986) by suggesting that students and their parents should go through a few stages and eventually select an institution or subject of study. These stages include pre-search behavior, search behavior, application stage, choice decision and registration. The first stage. Pre-search behavior is when students at their early stages of thinking about what they would like to be in future. In search behavior stage, students’ shortlist the potential desirable study destination, institutes and courses. Then they submit their application to selected institutions in their application stage. Choice decision occurs when students accept an offer, depending on the number of offers received. Finally, during the registration stage, students reflect the right decision to register with the course, there is possibility that it is a wrong decision and turn down offer (Chapman, 1986; Factors influencing International students, Suh Li Phang ISSN: 651-4769, pg. …show more content…
Students as consumers in this study have to be considered in their way of decision making. Many researchers have research into the consumer decision-making. Among them include Gabbot and Hogg (1994), Kotler (2003, 200-211), Mullins et al. (2005, 109 – 127), Chapman (1986) as mentioned earlier is one of the first who applied consumer behavior theory of education. With regards to Chapman’s model we see that the choice of students is influenced by a set of characteristics in combination with external factors or influences playing a major role.
Moogan (2003) also researched into the decision-making process of students. His focus was on the first three stages of the commonly used five stage model of consumer buying process. Moogan’s research was a large scale survey of 674 British students who were planning on entering into higher education within the next 12
Tuition also plays a role in decision making because some people don’t have enough money to pay for college out of pocket so, they need financial help. They look at what financial aid they can receive and any scholarships that are available. They include statistics to back up data, this helps the reader understand fully how
1. Thesis “It’s Christopher Martin’s view that society should in fact provide higher education freely to all. He reviews some purported differences between higher education and other goods that are commonly held to merit free provision for all, arguing that these are only apparent differences.” (615, Martin) 2. Support for Thesis “Governments across the world are citing increased global competitiveness and a slow economy as reasons for reducing funding to higher education.”
The authors give many factual and statistical examples, but rarely state where the information is coming from (209-210). This makes the reader question their credibility and question whether the facts are correct or not. Tuition is an important factor in picking a college. The authors examine that in the process of choosing a college, many people look at the price before anything else (220).
For example, “nationwide survey conducted by UCLA titled “Your First College Year” which is data collected in 2005 and 2007 that only 16.4% of students were very satisfied with the overall quality of instructions they received and 28.2% were neutral, dissatisfied, or very dissatisfied” (Nemko 33). It has been said, that many students in their first fiscal college years are not satisfied with instructions due to lack of the teachers qualification, large classrooms and being home sick. He goes on to declare, “colleges make money whether or not a student learns, whether or not she graduates, and whether or not he finds good employment” (Nemko 33). In fact, whether the student passes or fails colleges will obtain government funding or monies, therefore the concerns are limited with the type of education a student receives. With this in mind, Nemko is trying to make undergraduates and parents aware of what universities are offering; how these so called businesses can become very expensive.
The similarities between the two’s perspectives regarding the topic are also strikingly similar--adding to the validity and developing a concrete explanation. Each writer has their distinct, personal definition of globalization, however unignorable similarities exist between the
As the process in which more and more people become connected in more different ways across larger distances (Lechner, 2009). Lechner, F.J. (2009) Globalization: The Making of World Society: John Wiley & Sons Stromquist and Monkman (2000) pointed out that “globalization is a phenomenon that comprises multiple and drastic changes in all areas of social life, particularly economics, technology, and culture” Castells (2000) identified sources of competitiveness in global economy four distinct processes: the technological capacity; access to large, integrated, and affluent market; profitable differential between production costs; and production sets. From the education perspective, more and more schools are in cooperation with some companies and
Many students out of high school take the next step in extending their education by attending college. At the same time, how they choose the right school is one of the most burdening decisions in the secondary education process. Before going to college, the student must start the process to figure out their interests and where it can take them. Once this has been determined, they can start the application process to colleges that will assure success. Unfortunately, many parents of young adults impose limitations to their choices.
Initially, the author points out that many college students are dissatisfied because they enrolled for the wrong reasons. The author discusses how many students attend college because it seems fun, because of parental pressure, and because they receive financial support without working (Bird 217). This means that although many students pursue higher education, few of them are motivated by passion or ambition. Next, Bird insists that many people can find professional success without attaining a college degree. Bird says “… a college diploma no longer opens as many vocational doors” (224).
The need for acquiring a college degree has always been a difficult decision for students. Oftentimes the thought of attending college is seen as a requirement to enter the higher class in the United States. It has become common to think that recipients of a college education will end up making more money than the people who do not receive post-secondary education. The choice of whether or not to attend college has been pondered in the minds of adolescents. The amount of money that people make weighs heavily on whether or not they attend college right after high school.
Schlack sums up the issue in three key words, “status, economics and competition”. By identifying these three factors, schack strengthens his appeal towards the reader by letting them know that he understands what is false about their ideas of going to college. Additionally, Schlack gives an example of a student who is brainwashed by parents and teachers who push them towards going to college. “ college is like your life. If you don 't go to college… you can 't live a successful life”.
In article “Do and Should Financial Aid Package Affect Students’ choice of college” the authors emphasized that some scholarship helps students determine which college they will attend. While other scholarships helps student to ranked the colleges based on the amount of aid they received (Avery, Hobxy 2). Some students only have financial aid to rely on; therefore if the aid is not enough to pay for admission they cannot attend that
As China is becoming more globalized and connected to the world, more people choose to study abroad and to gain experience as global citizens. Also, more Chinese parents sent their children to foreign countries, expecting them to get a degree. This research paper focuses on the public view in China about studying abroad and the reasons that cause this trend. The reasons include the rigid education system and the culture of conformity in China.
Globalization and Nation States Globalization has integrated and intertwined the economies of the world. In the world today, every nation has become independent on every other nation, be it through trade or through finance. Developing countries today are attracting large rounds of foreign investment, and this foreign investment is coming from the developed countries. Thus, the money of the developed countries is today invested in the developing countries.

The aim of this assessment is to reflect on what I have learned this semester regarding the module of Business in Global Context; from the lectures with the professor, the case studies done in class and the three previous patchworks that we worked on. We have learned that there are different internal and external components that affect the business environment, from corporate social responsibility to cultural and institutional framework; organizations must take into consideration all the factors related to the different parts of its environment. For the topic discussion, I will be discussing globalization and how it has affected the global business environment along with the key aspects and the different point of views regarding it.
