INTRODUCTION
After many years of isolation, primitive means were used to communicate and to spread awareness of the outside world. Suddenly, an astounding gate was invented and established, opening a path for humans through which they entered to discover new and hidden things they never had the knowledge of in their own world. That gate is "mass media". Mass media has integrated into the life of every single person living on planet Earth in a new unprecedented way. Nowadays, mass media is like a coin; they both have two sides; the negative and the positive. Yet we can notice that the negative side is fluctuating in the past fifty years especially with the advance of technology. Although mass media is still a debatable topic, the harms still outnumber its benefits and we should start looking for solutions to lost privacy and the inefficient ways of censorship.
THE ABSENCE OF PRIVACY
Privacy in this age of advancement in technology is almost irrelevant. Social media is the number one cause of privacy

It is mostly rendered by governments or by non-public and private organizations. Individuals and organizations could interact in self-censorship for ethical, moral, religious, or business reasons, to adjust to social group norms, because of intimidation, or out of concern of legal or other consequences. The motivations for censorship vary from well-meant needs to secure youngsters from unsuitable content to authoritarian attempts to regulate a nation 's access to information. No matter what the reasons are, we know that they block access to web pages they determine as undesirable. Internet censorship is not only a parental or governmental tool. There are multiple code software products that may limit or block access to specific Internet sites. The general public understands these programs as net filters. Censorship opponents have another name for them: Censor
Censorship is defined as “when a person of group successfully imposes their values upon other by stifling words, images or ideas” (Gould 2009). When we think of censorship, we think of the bleeping out of words on television and the radio. Sometimes we censor ourselves in conversation around small children or in a professional environment. However, most people do not think about the censorship of literature. A famous example is when Hitler would collect piles of books and burn them because they did not match the ideals of his regime.
The government does engage in censoring citizens and the media, just not as directly as what may come to mind when they hear the term censorship. Based upon this, how do we have censorship in the US? Free speech zones, which basically they are small areas for protesters to protest. People have been arrested for protesting outside of them. For example, John Blair was arrested in 2002 for refusing to go into the free speech zone at an event where Dick Cheney was speaking (Blair).
Censorship is detrimental to most people around the world’s well-being because it limits the free flow of information and can inhibit mental maturity. In a 2012 New York Times article, journalist
world is a dramatized version of a censored society; everyone is self centered and involved in themselves. Censorship is needed for children, insuring morally productive people and creates safety in society. Censorship protects children Aric Sigman author of “What Children Need is Censorship,” said “the difference between a child and an adult is that children are more vulnerable to the effects of everything from sunburn and alcohol to ideas and images”. Children are our future they are what we tell them and show them. Sigman also says.
Censorship can be used because of offensive, sensitive, harmful, or objectionable speech/ideas. In life, censorship is used a lot, more than people think. It also affects lives too. People barely notice it, or care for it, but censorship is there. Censorship has been used for a long time, it has a lot of history.
First we should define censorship in order to discuss its effects and purposes. The Oxford English Dictionary defines censorship as, “The suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.” In this case we are mostly concerned with the censorship of “politically unacceptable” literature. However, Anaya states that reasons such as vulgarity can be used as excuses to ban politically challenging literature.
To start off, censorship is a controversial issue which dates back to ancient times, in ancient cultures for a multitude of reasons. However in America recently, older persons have tried to limit, filter, and censor what the youth have had access to. This includes print
One hundred years ago nobody heard about the news or current events from Facebook or the newest tweet. Until fairly recently the most up to date news had to be heard through the grapevine or read in a newspaper. Since the creation of the internet and the mass media that comes with it, information can now be spread all the way across the world in the time it takes to hit the enter button on a computer or phone and upload it to the internet. Some people think that this is a bad thing because so many things that are uploaded can be either false information or simply information that is misleading and could teach individuals the wrong thing. However, if mass media is used in the right way it can be beneficial to the accessibility of valuable information,
Censorship can be described as the act of cutting out certain material that can be considered obscene or inconvenient for the community. This material can be found in social media such as in the TV, radio, or the internet. Censorship can be challenged because of the first amendment: freedom of speech. Free expression is the right of expressing opinions and ideas without any fear of being restrained or censored. However, freedom of speech does not include the right to incite actions that would harm others or the distribution of obscene material (Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, 2000).
Censorship is all about deciding on what people can see with in the media that revolves around the world. Censorship puts a wall around harmful, sensitive or inconvenient speech or communication. All around the world censorship has taken place to limit certain material to the public that leaders didn’t want them seeing or listening to. According to Mob Notes, it states, “Two-thirds of the world 's internet users live under regimes of government censorship” (Mob Notes). Restrictions to media around the world could bring positive and negative outcomes to society.
In order to ensure their steady control over this vast amount of people the Chinese government must control them by regulating the worlds most intertwined and complex communication system in the modern era, the internet. A guideline to the China's leading party is strict regulation in every aspect of the internet. In the past couple years a revitalized mission for control against internet freedom has emerged. The foremost problem in China is internet censorship. The Chinese government has several regulatory bodies in charge of internet censorship, among them being the State Council Information office, the Cyber space Administration of China, and finally the State Administration of Press, Publications, Radio, Film, and Television.
Furthermore, in many developing countries or in those with oppressive regimes, government actions are more important than the Internet in defining how information is produced and consumed, and by whom. There are so many counties that use strict censorship in their media. “Present-day examples include Russia as a territorially shrunken successor state to the former USSR, China and North Korea” (Höchli, 2010). Censorship in North Korea is known to be the most intense among the world. With a government such as theirs, they are able to take strict control over communications.
In this advance era, mass media plays a significant role towards all of us and we can truly admit that mass media is one of the basic essenssial that used by everyone in their daily life. Generally, mass media is a print and electronic means of communication that spreads messages to the audiences and carries out information to the people in the society. Mass media can be divided into two categories, which is the print media include like newspaper, magazines, and books. Another mass media is the electronic media include like radio, television, and internet which is used by most of the people nowadays. Media is one of the most influential aspects of our lives.
Chapter 1 Background of the Study Introduction In the contemporary world, most people use social media for news, entertainment, to seek information and to be updated every day. Nowadays, the use of social media has greatly changed how people interact with other people. Today, most people only consider the benefits that the social media brought to the people without thinking about the possible negative implications of using it.
Media is critical in today 's society because the mass media performs a number of es- essential functions in our lives. First, they serve an information or surveillance function. Second, they serve an agenda-setting and interpretation function. Third, they help us create and maintain connections with various groups in society. Fourth, they help us socialise and educate us.
