EXPERIENCE STORY
Searching for a summer internship seemed like a mammoth task. The only thing I was clear about was that I wanted an entirely different work experience.
My interest of working in an animal shelter popped up when I had read the poor conditions of animals in daily newspaper.I decided to undergo training in

After a very restless night, listening to all the strange noise and coping with the heat,I woke up at about 5:30 in the morning.
I was very much excited at the prospect of being so close to the animals.
All the animals are sociable and so the deserve the best care and loving homes. One of the many responsibilities that I attended to while in the animal shelter was to ensure their protection. The other duties involved cleaning and maintenance of the animal holding areas, preparation of animal diets, watering and feeding, proper medical care, providing exercises etc.
Working there needs a lots of patience and courage. We devoted all our time, energy in dealing with the animals in shelter.
Working with animals in the shelter made everyday an adventure. There was always something going on.I have walked with animals, fed babies, cleaned them up.Watched them play and scratch. We had to sleep near the animals so as to keep an eye on them when they are sick. All other volunteers that joined in the experience were great because we were all like minded people who adored
“The Zookeeper’s Wife” by Diane Ackerman reveals the true story of Jan and Antonia Żabiński, two authentic zookeeper’s who risked their lives by being a part of an underground resistance towards Hitler. When all the animals were taken away from the zoo, Jan and Antonia used their free space to hide refugees until safe passage to a new home was discovered. Throughout the book Ackerman relates many experiences to freedom and confinement. Some people believe that animals should not be kept in zoos. Others believe that as long as animals feel like they are in their natural habitat that being in a zoo is acceptable.
Research Paper The charity that I’m going to write all about is the Dubuque Regional Humane Society, located in Dubuque, IA. The Dubuque Regional Humane Society has a mission and it’s all about taking care of animals. The Dubuque Regional Humane Society is a very good charity because of all of the things they go through just to make sure any animal is safe and well respected. One of the many great things the Dubuque Regional Humane Society does is bring in stray animals and shelter them.
Service animals are individually trained to perform tasks and do work that mitigate their handlers’ disabilities. Service animals are much more than highly trained companions. Working as part of a team with their human partners, service animals help them attain the safety and independence from which their handlers’ disabilities would otherwise limit them. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects the rights of people with disabilities to be accompanied by their service animals in public places, like businesses, restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, etc.
Among the many individuals who work in and run women’s shelters or just shelters all together have varying levels of education and experience. Shelter’s may possess staff whose educational experience consist of partial High School, a High School or General Education Development (GED) Diploma, Addictions Counselling Diploma, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Degree, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, nursing degree, counselling certificate, Administration Certificate or Diploma, Youth Care Worker Certificate or Diploma, and Early Childhood Education Certificate or Diploma (PATHS, 2014). The profession is expected to grow ten percent by 2024, and the median salary in 2015 was $63, 530 (BLS,
Than when I came home in the evenings, I would walk their dogs again. On a day to day basis I walk three dogs or you can say they walk me. As a child growing up I had several small animals (dogs, cats, fish, and a hamster). I grew up in a family of nurses and after hearing stories about how evil some sick patients can be verbally, I knew then that I wanted to become a nurse for animals instead of humans
Countless lives locked away in cages and forgotten about have overwhelmed our society, it has left blood stains on our history as a species and if history has taught us anything, it’s that we have a choice to change our ways of adjusting to situations. A war which was fought in means of ending such criminal acts, yet we as human beings do little to nothing to end the terrible crimes of animal deaths in shelters. Between these problems lies a terrible truth, nearly every year, almost eight million cats and dogs have been placed in shelters around the world. Out of these very large numbers, half will be euthanized. That equals to one animal being put down every 8 seconds.
It’s important to know to that, Service animals have a very important job in their life. Their job is to help people with disabilities. Another example would be suppose you can’t walk as much. The dog knows the kid wants to play and needs to walk. The kid wants to play with the dog.
Margulis was in awe at the progress of the humane society once the new building was built. Many families started to adopt the animals and she reminisced that, “treating animals with a lot of respect, this is the key to all this hard work”. All of her hard work had finally, after years of effort, payed off. Margulis recalls “I love saving badly treated little beings, that’s the best thing I could hope for”. She believes that although humans are important, not enough respect and care is paid towards animals and helping them is one of the best things she could do for the community.
Although Jeremy Rifkin, Bob stevens, and Lois Frazier have all written about their view on animals and how they are treated globally, but when bringing in animal rights groups like ASPCA and PETA, different bias and tactics are newly introduced. Of all the articles, Jeremy Rifkin uses the most credible sources such as lab studies and examples. In the article “A Change of Heart about Animals” Rifkin uses sources such as Purdue University and the European union when talking about situations. One situation he writes about is how pigs need social activity so the pigs are not “lacking mental and physical stimuli [which] hand result in deterioration of health”.
Did you know that diabetes service animals can smell a person's breath and blood? This allows them to recognize if their owners blood sugar is too high or too low. This can be a good tool for people whose blood sugar drops very fast. Service animals benefit a person’s life by allowing their owners to have someone around at all times, getting their owners moving, and helping owners with everyday tasks.
They were built in the United States and Canada during the 1960’s and 1970’s. When these facilities were built, there was little understanding of animal behaviors and a lack of compassion for their suffering. Over the years, inventors and animal activists such as Temple Grandin have spoken up for these animals and explained why how they are treated is so important. She considered one of the world’s few designers for livestock handling equipment and facilities (Animal Handling Inventions,
Zoos and can be places where the imagination and creativity of people, especially children, can come alive and inspire them to tread avenues that they never expected they would take. In the early years of my childhood, I spent many hours observing and studying wild animal exhibits in zoos in Seattle Washington. I would imagine myself in my dream world as zoo keeper or a veterinarian helping animals and knowing them each by name. As I studied and let my imagination run free; I knew that someday, somehow, I would be involved in the care of animals. Without the establishment of zoos and, I would have never realized my dreams and perused a career in biology and animal care.
Millions of lives just as innocent as the most generous child; Trapped in the barriers we know as cages, that they know as Hell; Too many lives for humanity to just be a bystander. Each and every day is filled with a million moments and opportunities for us to take a stand and make a change. Animal shelters around the world are constantly filling with new animals; it is simply too much for the small amounts of staff on their own to make sure every animal gets the love they deserve, as well as making sure the shelter is kept tidy and operating. Animal shelters need us, young and old, even if only for an hour. That small span of time can make the world for them; volunteering assures that animals will get daily love, lowers full-time staff stress,
Zoos play a role in educating people about animals and play an important part in animal conservation. While much information on animals is available through printed materials and the Internet, it's way much better being near them seeing what they actually are. Many people lack the means to travel to the native habitats of most animals, however, zoos bring animals from many different climates and locations together in one place. For many people as well, the experience of being close to these animals has more impact than simply reading about them. This experience often gives them sympathy for animals that they may
So many animals roam the streets. These poor creatures stroll around alone, cold, hungry, and petrified. Because of the overpopulation, animal control must step in. They at times, forcefully snatch up these beings, and load them into trucks. Those dogs and cats, then get taken to shelters.
