INTERSTELLAR: What I love about this movie is the fact that Nolan brothers were able to take 2 ordinary concepts; one revolving around Einstein 's relativity and the other immersed in human emotions; and then make it into something truly Extra-Ordinary. Though the plot is staged in some outer space, hyper dimensional setting, when you think about it, you 'll see that it 's not about science. It 's about connection. That 's the soul of this movie. That 's the essence. And that 's what makes it interesting. And for those who want a mind-bending interpretation of the movie (by Aussify on reddit), please read on: This is my interpretation with my own ideas of Interstellar. If you find anything factually errant in this, I invite you to correct me, but please be constructive about it. Before I get started on a long mindfuck of a journey that Interstellar sent me on, let me just say that many people think this is not …show more content…
I suppose I could go further with this. This undoubtedly brings up the notion between corporeality and incorporeality, matter and spirit, etc., because if fifth dimensional beings do not have a third dimensional body, how can they exist? Cooper and Brand set up and represent the tension between these two polar opposites. Brand is oriented toward love and leaps of faith, as she demonstrated on Miller 's planet and her lack of logical thought, and on the ship while arguing about traveling to Edmund 's planet. Cooper is rigidly rational, as is demonstrated in the aforementioned argument, and basically all throughout the movie. If the fifth dimensional beings really did choose what happened to whom, then of course it makes sense that Brand, being the maternal, almost spiritual individual that she is, would go on to colonize and nurse a planet into activity with life. It also makes sense that these fifth dimensional beings would send Cooper into a situation in which he could only face what he loved most, without rationality
Much like money, time is a human construct. Human beings created the concept of time to organize the events of their lives in a continuous, chronological order. Kurt Vonnegut’s novel, Slaughterhouse Five, depicts a different interpretation of time and the organization of events in Billy Pilgrim’s life. Billy Pilgrim’s life is broken up into brief events, and Vonnegut writes the events out of chronological sequence, which adds a unique flair to an already distinctive work of literature. In addition, Vonnegut includes the Trafalmadore alien’s perception of time to further solidify the theme in his work.
Alien is a remarkable horror film that was way ahead of its generation with little to nothing to complain about. The scenery was remarkable, especially inside the space craft and egg chamber; it never failed to add to the mood of the environment. The violence, from the chestburster scene, to the crew being killed was natural and paced, not overdone and in your face. Though there were small parts that could use touch ups, like all films, there was one scene that seemed unnecessary, that being on the escape pod where Ripley was stripping down in preparation for cryonic sleep. Being the half-naked vulnerable woman with a monster trying to eat you seemed to horror cliché and that it was merely trying to broaden their appeal to the male audience, but no film is perfect and it still sits very high on my favorite movie list as well as other film critics.
Ordinary People In the award winning film, Ordinary People, the Jarrett family has just suffered the loss of their eldest son, Buck. The family lacks the ability to express the grief in their loss. A conflict management technique that could have helped the Jarrett family be more open about their emotions is to create safety. Conrad turns to violence and silence when safety is not established.
See, while he may originally seem harmless, Daly has something the common playboy doesn’t: resentment. Consequently, when Daly thinks he isn’t being treated in the way he deserves, it causes a sort of cognitive dissonance within him. The need to fulfill the role of a macho man leads him to create this game where the players have to treat him as the hero… against their will. Using his own coding, Daly creates his own personal Infinity, making it comparable to a Star Trek-like universe.
The film Ordinary People follows the family of a once suicidal teenage boy, Conrad, who is dealing with severe survivor's guilt after the death of his older brother, Buck, at sea. Throughout the movie, dysfunction within the family is very evident on many different occasions. Each of the three remaining members of the household; Beth Jarrett, Calvin Jarrett and, as mentioned before, Conrad Jarrett, demonstrate many instances where inadequacy in conflict management is clearly shown. If not for these deficiencies, however, the family would have been able to better cope and recover from the loss of Buck.
Mickey Ngobeni Research Question: Is the movie ‘Gravity’, according to Newton’s laws and physics in general, accurate? Introduction: ‘Gravity’ is a sci-fi, techno-thriller movie that has its plot’s setting based in space. Astronauts (main characters: Sandra Bullock as ‘Dr. Ryan Stone’ and George Clooney as ‘Matt Kolwaski’) are sent into space, yet encounter a series of events, most of which is susceptible to occur in outer space (Foogray, 2015). Questions have risen as to how accurate the movie is according to physics and Newton’s law, and many have been answered.
Greg finds himself arguing whether to comfort his friend Rachel who was diagnosed with Leukemia or to keep living his ordinary and commonplace life. Spending time with Rachel would lead to people believing he was in her friend group. This would eventually lead to the creation of enemies which is what Greg wanted to avoid in the first place. Whether Greg should show Rachel the movies he and Earl made is another man versus self conflict. Greg must make his own decision whether or not to embarrass himself by sharing his unprofessional video shorts to someone other than Earl or himself.
One of the factors that define Inception are the conflicts that appear in the film. A major conflict is the battle between Cobb and society. In Inception, faceless corporations are trying to kill Cobb, while the U.S. government is trying to imprison him because of a crime that he didn’t commit. These are examples of the “person against society” conflict, which can be considered as a characteristic of science-fiction. On the other hand, there is another significant conflict; the struggle between Cobb and himself, because of the belief that Mal’s suicide was his fault.
Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is a movie that reflects the value of friendship during tough social situations. The movie portrays several inferences and levels of the made up friendship between the main characters Greg and “the dying girl” Rachel during her struggle with cancer and the friendship between the two senior students in the same high school Greg and Earl. Both of Greg and Earl craft short films during their senior year in high school, yet they refuse to publish them or give a copy to anyone up until the part in the movie in which Greg life changes because he develops a friendship with a girl with leukemia named Rachel and the other part where Earl publicizes the films he did with Greg to Rachel. In this film, Greg faces many difficult situations because he was forced to do things that
INTRODUCTION “We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ has no place.” -Chief Justice Earl Warren Separate But Equal, directed by George Stevens Jr, is an American made-for-television movie that is based on the landmark Brown v. Board of Directors case of the U.S. Supreme court which established that segregation of primary schools based on race, as dictated by the ‘Separate but Equal’ doctrine, was unconstitutional based on the reinterpretation of the 14th amendment and thus, put an end to state-sponsored segregation in the US. Aims and Objectives:
The concept of time plays a major role because time is slowed down in space. There is a scene in the film that shows Cooper and the rest of the crew land on the first potential "habitable" planet. They are faced with the reality that the planet is only water and Uninhabitable. When Dr. Brand and Doyle are trying to collect the data to see if the planet is habitable, two enormous waves appear. While one wave is going away from them, the other is coming full force towards them.
In addition, it is evident in the film that the two characters, Bob and Charlotte, arrive in Tokyo in a state of emotional imbalance and unsatisfied. However, when they finally meet, the director brings the balance back. The theme of love is also evident in the film. After Bob meets Charlotte, they liked each other simply because both were lonely in
Overall, minus a few hiccups, I greatly enjoyed this movie. The three aspects that most grabbed my attention becoming the sources of my enjoyment were character portrayal, the symbolism used in almost every scene, and connections to my own life experiences. I have always been a great supporter of the idea that characters are what makes a film great, for they are the basis of any narrative and prove to be one of the most
Adversity in “The Intouchables” “My true disability is not having to be in a wheel chair. It’s having to be without her.” (The Intouchables). Lines like that are just a piece of the great undertaking directors Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano took when they decided to be part of The Intouchables.
I think the movie Interstellar is mostly based on emotions and logic. It’s director Christopher Nolan said that The further out into the infinite we went and the more we isolated these characters who have to go across the universe, the more the focus naturally becomes on their humanity, on that intimate bond they have, what makes us human, all those issues{1}. I think what’s important for us to be humans is care for others more than ourselves .It helps in us in taking risks we usually fear to take to help others. The 2014-movie Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan had a lot of people’s effort who did research in order to make the movie more realistic to real life experience.
