Intestinal parasitoses have a worldwide distribution but they are more prevalent in developing countries. Intestinal helminths and protozoan parasites are major public health problems in developing countries (1).
Intestinal parasitic protozoal and helminthic infections are widely distributed throughout the world, especially in developing countries. World Health Organization estimates that some 3.5 billion people worldwide are affected, and that 450 million are ill as a result of these infections, the majority being children (2).
Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) constitute a global health burden causing clinical morbidity and mortality in the developing world affects about 450 million people, many of these are women of reproductive age and children in developing countries (3).
Ethiopia is one of the countries with high prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections. Intestinal parasite infections are linked to lack of sanitation, lack of access to safe water and improper hygiene; therefore they occur wherever there is poverty (4).

The overall prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection was found to be 15.17% (m=15.65% vs f=14.62%).The prevalence of intestinal parasitosis was found to be highest among patients aged 5-14 years (20.66%), followed by elderly people aged > 45 years (16.20%) and least among children aged < 5 years (9.09%). among various parasites detected, the most common was E. histolytica (44.86%) followed by G.lamblia (33.65%), H.worm (10.50%), A.lumbricoides (5.72%), Strongyloides stercoralis (4.77%), Hymenolepis nana (3.34%), Trichuris trichiura (0.95%) and Enterobius vermicularis (0.23%)
