On Thursday, November 5th, I went to go see the musical Into the Woods put on by the Shawnee Mission Northwest theatre department. Into the Woods is a play about several characters from different fairy tales that interact with each other throughout the plot. Some of the characters include: Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack(from Jack and the Beanstalk), the witch, and the baker and his wife(these two characters do not actually belong to a fairy tale, but have a major role in the plot). There are many other characters from different fairy tales as well, but these are some of the characters that I found most important. The plot mainly revolves around the baker and his wife. There was a curse bestowed on the baker’s family by their neighbor, …show more content…
I truly thought that this performance was incredible. My grandpa(he went and watched the musical with me) thought the performance was too good to be a high school play. I would’ve agreed with him except I already knew how talented our performers are. Besides the amazing talent, another incredible thing stood out to me. The set was absolutely amazing. I was shocked to see how great it was when I walked into the theater. I have never seen such an amazing set put together by youth. It was incredible. The crew also did a phenomenal job. Normally, when I attend a performance put together by a school there are many issues that happen during the play. Things like the microphone volume is either too loud or too quiet, the music doesn’t start/end when it is supposed to, or set changes didn’t happen in time. But, during Into the Woods everything went smoothly. The crew did an amazing job! It was very fun for me to watch my friends perform and to see how wonderfully executed the play was. It was also really nice to see the play with my grandpa. My grandpa doesn’t live near here so it is rare that I get to spend time with him. It was really nice to have some one-on-one time. My grandpa was very pleased with the performance as well. He thought it was incredible how good the performance was. It was really nice to see him smile and for us to have something to talk about on the ride
The musical Seussical the Musical was a jovial experience that made many including me reminiscence the times when we read Dr. Suess. The creative sets, colorful costumes, and the acting skills brought Dr. Seuss 's books alive. I truly enjoyed the aspect of joining Dr. Seuss books and plots, like Gertrude McFuzz to create one plot and the inclusion of The Cat in the Hat in many of the scenes. The musical captured the ambience of the books, specifically Horton Hears A Who. The dedication of those in the musical shined from their eminent acting skills and their ability to display the character they portrayed.
To begin the setting was amazingly seamless and convincing; although, I didn’t have very high expectation for the sets I was amazed to say the least when I saw the first scene set. In scenes where Santa was telling Buddy’s story the set was the most simplistic while other scenes for instance when Buddy first gets to New York I was amazed by the set and how realistic it was to the actual setting. The flow of sets was almost seamless making the entire play feel dreamlike. The stage props used throughout the play were handled as though they weren’t props and that the character holding or using them used them every day adding to the dreamlike feeling of this play. The lighting perfectly depicted the mood of each scene I noticed that while in the North Pole the lights tended to be more of a bright white light which to me symbolizes joy and happiness, while in other scenes in New York I noticed gloomier colors such as dark blue that most likely to symbolize Buddy’s struggle and conflict with his father, Walter.
Standing on the dark stage, I took deep, slow breaths to calm my nerves. My stomach did somersaults and my hands shook. Fidgeting with my pink peasant top and ankle length yellow floral skirt, I made eye contact with my fellow actors. The closed curtain was the only thing separating us from an audience of five hundred people. One would think that after three months of rehearsals I would feel prepared for this, but I didn’t.
Overall, the actors used many of their talents in order to make the play believable, relate to and interest the
The performance was too long for me. From the director mouth it should have been longer; He was happy it had closed right before 11. I was tired and ready to go to sleep by the time I got to the car . But by far the most disappointing aspect of the play was the on stage props, or lack thereof. There was only foldable chairs for the actors to sit on and a cloth wallpaper of clouds that were simulating heaven.
When thinking about the production The Long Christmas Ride Home, I can say that I have very mixed feelings. On one hand, I don’t really like watching theatre productions that aren’t musicals. When a production is not a musical, I find myself drifting off into boredom at times. However, The Long Christmas Ride Home definitely kept me hooked and was unlike any production that I have ever seen. While watching the Long Christmas Ride Home, that biggest idea that I could take away from it was that I really liked the plot of the production.
For example, a clear obstacle during the show was when Bonnie and Clyde’s days of crime end abruptly when they are gunned down in a shower of bullets once the police find them. In my opinion, the plot was presented clearly, and effectively. Clyde Barrow is one of the main characters of the musical. Clyde plays an edgy, ruthless man who wants nothing but to be an outlaw, just like his childhood role model, Billy the Kid.
The actor that was chosen for the role of Linc made the role extremely believable. I almost forgot that he was acting! The second act of the show was performed by many Choir students. Each and every singer had an amazing voice that soothed my ears. However one person in particular stood out, Marshalla Kahleck.
The singing was in creditable but the symphony was definitely icing on the cake. The acting made the play appear so real. There was certainly chemistry between the actors on and off the stage; this made the performance ten times better. The actors were entertaining.
I 'm stoked to be a part of such a amazing musical! You do not want to miss it! The cast and crew have been working nonstop on this production! It is the biggest Camelot production yet! I am so thankful for all the volunteers who
As the lights dimmed and the cast took the stage to sing their opening number, the first thing to catch my eye was the costumes of the cast. Having never heard of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, I wasn’t aware of what type of musical it would be. The moment I saw the cast in their rock star themed costumes, I knew it was
Then the harmony in the song was well kept throughout, they would sometimes sound like one then would go play their other parts occasionally. When I went to the bookstore that was holding the concert, I did not expect it to be as small as it was. Expecting something like a Barns&Nobles but then seeing something that is the size of my kitchen and living room
“The Play That Goes Wrong” required a very detailed strategic plan of the arranged props and set design that actors need to follow in their performance. I believe the performers did a marvelous job in following the detailed choreography of the show. One of the most memorable cast members was Nancy Zamit. She played Annie the stage manager, who took the spotlight when she was forced into playing Charles’ fiancée named Sandra because the original female lead got "knocked unconscious” in the middle of the play. As terribly shy as she was, Zamit intensified the enjoyment of the audience as her character was reading off lines from pages of the script very awkwardly and awfully in an unfitted red dress and wig.
Overall, the quality of the play was excellent, I really enjoyed the music, somewhat comedy, and the message they were trying to share among the society. In the end of the play, the musical dance with the bear represent strong unity, even whatever their issues in their life. Therefore, one thing I learned from this awesome play was, even if one person stands up against the society, then the next one will follow
I was really glad that I sat at the back because when the raving ones were on stage they got really close to those in the front. The whole play was really enjoyable, especially when
