Inventions of WWII Did you know that the ballpoint pen was created during WWII? Most inventions created during WWII helped the war effort, but a few did not. Most inventions fell into the categories of medical, technological, or combative. The war was won with these inventions, so some respect is due towards them. Is gunpowder one of the most influential parts that changed warfare? Warfare has changed a lot through the years gunpowder was able to change right along with it, they kept creating new weapons to adapt to the new style of warfare. There are many different things that changed warfare throughout our history, however gunpowder was one of the most effective and deadliest one. Gunpowder was created back around A.D. 850 by Chinese scientists. It was made by using the oxidizing agent potassium nitrate.
The United states changed dramaticily between 1776 and 1870. The popualtion increased rapidly . People were given constituational rights. There was no more slavery and less racial discrimination. The U.S became more of a industrial economy rather then agricultural.
During the Civil War, there were a lot of important and significant battles fought and there were also many inventions made. One battle during the Civil War fits both categories. This battle is the Battle of the Merrimac vs. the Monitor, also known as the Battle of Hampton Roads. Both of these ships had very different and complex backgrounds and very different inventors. The advancements changed the way the battles were fought, but at what cost in the beginning? With the Civil War edging closer to the horizon in 1861, a new terrifying weapon was being brought to the forefront.

The United States lost nearly two percent of its population during the time due to the powerful weapons that were used. One weapon that was turned down and not used in the War, but invented during the war was the Gatling Gun. Also recognized as the world's first machine gun. It could fire 190 bullets per minute (Wheeler, 2006).
The nature of World War 1 was affected by many factors that achieved to alter the way it played out. Two of those major influences were leadership and technology. Although the improvement of war technologies where important. It is believed that leadership had a bigger impact on World War 1 than technologies did. I personally follow that believe.
The technological development of heavy artillery in World War 1 was the most significant and it has the largest impact on the present day. Firstly, the heavy artillery that was used in World War 1 helped change how wars were fought from then on. In World War 1, many European countries used cavalry and other uses of horses because of how wars were previously fought. However, approximately 8 million horses were killed due to the new technology that was used in World War 1. The efficiency of the heavy artillery and the craters that the shells formed made horses useless which led to horses not being used in more modern wars.
