Shaun Calla man is quoted saying, “I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness. He made a lot of mistakes based on ignorance. I don’t admire him at all for his courage nor his noble ideas. Really, I think he was just plain crazy.” I personally believe that Callarman’s statement is both true and false. The reasons why this statement by Callarman is true is because McCandless had no business going into Alaska with how well his life was going and that he was crazy for going out there. The reasons why this statement by Callarman is false is because I believe McCandless had a ton of courage to pursue this adventure, knowing he might not make it out alive and by trying to prove to himself that he was still worth something in this world. …show more content…

He had a great education, a family who loved him, and a decent amount of money. So why did he leave it? I believe that McCandless was tired of the status quo and wanted to find peace and adventure within himself. The only logical conclusion that McCandless came up with was by leaving everything he knew and head off to Alaska. Why couldn’t McCandless just go camping in the woods for a couple of days in a nearby location? To go off on an expedition all the way across the country for no other reason than to prove something to him is just insane. Not only did McCandless go all of the way to Alaska, but he also gave away most of the money he had just before he went on the trip. By doing this instead of keeping some of it and buying some decent equipment and food, I think that McCandless was prepared to die in the
