The Outsiders is a heroic Story by S.E. Hinton. It is about a group of poor greasers and a gang of tough rich Socs, who fight for no reason, or fight to survive. How could each of the main Greasers be considered a hero? What is a hero? How does each boy have a hero-like impact? A hero is a great person who often puts himself in front of everyone, risking their life for others and how they always take action to help others. In this novel, Johnny is described as a ‘’lost puppy’’ or the ‘'gang's pet '’’. Although Johnny is an innocent, scared and a nervous boy, he is also one of the most fearless heroes.For example Johnny had a heroic act of saving children from the burning church,when he did so he said this “Listen, I don't mind dying now. …show more content…

Similar to Johnny, Ponyboy is a hero because he is not afraid to rescue and help the people in need. Despite the fact that most of the greasers are “hard” and “tuff”, Ponyboy likes to read,talk about sunsets and poetry. Ponyboy is an innocent boy with courage that changes by maturing throughout the book. The truth was the effort, after all the suffering and changes he has gone through in his life he chose to write a book to express his anger he felt which is why he is the narrator of this story. One fearless thing he did is helping Johnny with the kids in the burning church he said “I’ll get them out don't worry”(p.91)Ponyboy said this when he saw the church on fire and realized there was children in there, he went in and risked it all to save the children. He didnt think about anything else but the innocent children's lives. So thanks to Ponyboy and Johnny they were safe and not injured. Another act is when Ponyboy befriended a Soc. Before he met Cherry, Ponyboy thought socs were “white trash with Mustangs and madras shirts”now he realizes that socs are human just like greasers. After Bob was killed,Cherry was acting like a spy for the greasers. Ponyboy was surprised but soon found out that Cherry is only doing it because she is tired of the fighting between the Socs and the Greasers. Ponyboy's mindset was different after he met Cherry. Ever since their dad died Darry was the father figure in the story,Family was worth fighting for, Family was everything to him.Darry gave up his entire future to keep his family in place.To start of Darry saved Ponyboy from drowning by scaring the socs.He is a real hero for rasing, caring and protecting for his siblings and friends.As he says caring for his family “You’re living in a vacuum, Pony, and you’re going to have to cut it out. Johnny and Dallas were our buddies, too, but you don't just stop living because you lose someone”(p.173). Darry says this to Ponyboy because he is looking out for Ponyboy’s future because he has seemed to give up in life.Darry wants Ponyboy to realize he needs to keep going in life and not give up. Since Darry and Soda missed out on those opportunities they don't want Ponyboy to miss it. Well Darry is looking out for his family by protecting them as he can, he is also trying to keep them together. As Two bit says “You know the only reason that keeps Darry from bein’ a Soc is us”(p.126). This shows how much Darry cares for his family and could never lose them.
