Is Man Inherently Good or Evil?
How people believe the nature of humans is a very personal belief. That belief is shaped by how they grew up , and by their life experiences. What people believe has a large impact on the way they live their lives. Like John Locke, I agreed that people are inherently good. Our actions in crisis moments define us the most. For example, Carlos Arredondo, during the Boston bombings, the bombs went off and instead of Arredondo running to safety like everyone else. He stopped and started helping victims. One victim in particular, Jeff Bauman, he had just had his legs blown off, and Arredondo helped him to an ambulance, and stayed by his side the whole entire time.
Another reason for my belief is the way I have grown

I feel that because people are inherently good, they should be allowed more freedom than they are sometimes given. For example, laws are important, but most of them simply reinforce the ideas of most people that certain behaviors are wrong. Most people would never kill anyone, so a law saying it is wrong to kill really necessary? I do believe that people should be punished if they do wrong. But, I feel that even without laws most people would be kind to each other and would not set out to purposely harm another person. I also believe in freedom in personal relationships. My parents allow me a great deal of freedom, and I feel this was due to the shared belief that people are inherently good and are not going to look for …show more content…
One problem in believing that people are inherently good is trying to find a reason for all the 'evil ' things in the world. While I believe that people are inherently good, I do realize that there is a lot of evil people in the world. I know that, either by events in their lives or other causes I do not understand, people will not always be good, but in my view this is the exception to the norm.
The nature of human beings is very important as it shapes the way they look at their world. In this case, I must disagree with Hobbes, as I feel that people are inherently good. Most people will choose to be good over evil, and will help each other without asking what they are to get from their actions. While there is evil in the world, it is the exception to the norm. I agree, that man is inherently
Mencius believes human nature is inherently good through the teachings of Confucius. He argues with other confusions whom interpret his teachings differently, some believe humanity is born evil, others believe humanity is born neither good or evil, just a blank slate that can be influenced into becoming; good or evil. Mencius said “Humanity, Duty, Ritual, Wisdom-these are not external things we meld into us. They’re part of us from the beginning, though we may not realize it.”
Based off of John Locke’s and Thomas Hobbes’ theories , does that make the Europeans of the 15-17th century naturally evil? Does that make us naturally evil, since those are our ancestors? Or does that make us naturally good, since we have learned from their mistakes? Whether people then were good or evil, they were conquerors either
Inherent Good People think that inherent goodness does not exist, but it is more prevalent than one might think. Although the topic of inherent goodness can be difficult to think about, talking about it is sometimes easier. Inherent goodness has been created over time as a mindset that people are born good, and nobody is born bad. Everyone wants to do the right thing.
Through out history evil has been best depicted as the absence of goodness and goodness as the absence of evil. With goodness being comprehended as the direct opposite of evil. It is under speculation that maybe there can 't exist only one general meaning of good vs. evil. I trust this, in light of the fact that any one individual 's perception of good or evil is without a doubt directed by one 's social comprehension of certain qualities and ethics within their culture, i.e. the power of social conformity (Muncaster-Social Psychology Lecture, 2016). Yes, there can be cases of evil that is seen as malevolent all over the world but due to the ethnocentric component of the perception of cultural morals and values, one is unable to categorize another individual as evil or good based upon their own cultural understanding of this notion.
Some people could be born with evil souls and some could be born with good souls and the reason we are always fighting with each other is because it’s evils opinion against goods opinion. Or are we all born with a nutreal soul and then decide to be either good or evil based on the type of enviroment they grew up in. The most popular opinion is that people are born evil but choose to do good things to make up for it and
This shows why Hobbes believed in the monarchial form of government. Good is considered as morally righteous and evil is moral wrongdoing. I think that humans are inherently evil because they have to make an effort
This question has been asked for hundreds of years, are humans born inherently good or bad? Some might argue that as people mature, society’s influences ultimately determine whether or not that person will end up being good or bad. These people suggest that humans are naturally born of good intent. Many studies show that this may be true. In another case it can be argued that some people are born with a natural instinct to do bad things.
There are billions of people in the world. They all start as small infants, then grow up. But not everyone turns out the same as the next. Some turn out to be truly evil beings. The truth is, many humans have done acts of evil, but no one is born evil.
In Man’s Nature Is Good and Man’s Nature Is Evil, Mencius and Hsun Tzu argue about the true meaning of human nature. Mencius believed that humans are inherently good and Hsun Tzu believed that humans are naturally evil. Is it possible humans can be both good and evil? When it comes to whether human nature is good or evil, most people will choose one or the other.
Freedom I believe once freedom has been won, it can be taken away. If you are being bad or not following the rules, than you should not have the rights to do what you want. Freedom has been given to you for a reason, and you need to use it for that reason. I believe it should be taken away because sometimes freedom shouldn’t always be “free.” You should be limited on what you get to do.
Can we consider people as Good or Evil? People can be defined as neither good nor evil because many factors lead to us being a mixture of both. One of these factors is that we only have one perspective of life and the actions they do. This means we don 't have all the information to be able to form an opinion on them. Another factor is that we are unable to measure how good or bad an action is.
Jean Jaques Rousseau was partially correct in his statement that all are born good, however, society creates images of bad people. Man is born evil because of his desire for possession and hunger for power, shown throughout current events and recent news. The absence of guidance shows that man does not need bad influence in order to be bad, but needs good influence to be good. The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding illustrates the characteristics of evil very well. Golding illustrates the chaos on the island through the actions of the boys and their digression from civilization.
Evil is a simple word that we learn at a young age and that we understand is bad. However, our youth and innocence prevents us from knowing the weight the word holds. As our understanding of evil develops, we begin to see evil all around us. Although we hold common societal definitions of evil, each person is bound to view evil slightly different from others. Someone might consider alcoholism evil, while others consider it normal: someone might believe racism is evil, while others believe it is natural.
THOMAS HOBBES AND THE SOVEREIGN’S POWER In this essay, focusing on Thomas Hobbes’s book ‘’Leviathan’’, mainly on the chapters 13 and 14, I’m going to analyse the fact that Hobbes gives the sovereign an absolute power authorizing it to provide the society with security essential to their liberty. Thomas Hobbes is certainly one of the most controversial and frequently contested political philosophers of modern times; he left a significant mark on modern understanding of human nature, political theories and the issues of systems of governance. His work has been at the centre of many discussions among political philosophers; I will refer to some of the twentieth century political theorists and their critiques to confront Hobbes view of the absolute
Freedom is to be respectful. People should get to do what they want freely. The western civilization guaranteed freedom for it is own people, and occupied poor nations and deprived their people from their rights, including freedom. Say for instance, if someone goes to prison, they no longer have freedom even when they’re out of prison. So they have no right to live a free healthy life depending on how long they’re in prison.
