The American Dream is Attainable Dreaming of success, a bright future, or even hope? An idea placed in the Declaration of Independence, The American Dream has been a beacon of hope to many; however, does The American Dream really exist? Some can and will argue that it’s dead, and that it isn’t achievable. I believe it’s alive, but it has to be realistic. By being realistic, anything could be possible, but only with the amount of effort put forth. The American Dream is an opportunity in which a determined person can have exceptional success through dedication and hard work, achieving equality, freedom, and personal goals. America to some, is a wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world. Honestly, I believe all Americans have a dream for themselves. Maybe to go to college, to be more successful than their parents, or owning a house. The American Dream should not be unattainable, though. The goals for oneself should be realistic and achievable. For example, if someone had the desire to write a book, they would write copious amounts of drafts and edit all their work. Also, it might take several times to figure out everything. It should not be about buying a house, car, boat, etc. Why materialism made a sudden leap in this era, I would think the media has something to do with that. It’s understandable to work up to those additions, but they should not just be the “goal” that one works up for! Somewhere along the way, the pursuit of pleasure started taking hold of the dream. Life should not be shallow. Make it into something significant, elemental, and profound. There is so much more to it! Dreams give meaning to life. They make it so much more worthwhile. I myself have The American Dream. I dream of someday living a life of complete joy and happiness with the man that makes my dreams come true.
