Islam is the world’s third largest religion that has about 1.3 billion members. The growth of Islam in America is rapidly growing from individuals migrating to the states and from people converting to the faith, (Sarjjakool, 2010, pg 96). Since the 1990s, In influx of Muslims to the states has to be met with apprehension from Americans. For instance in Lewiston, Maine where Mayor Raymond urged the Muslim population to assimilate to the American culture and to stop relocating to the area. Afterwards, Mayor Raymond 's statement was met with backlash as it drew national attention. The Muslim population of Lewiston stated that the mayor 's comments elevated tensions within the community and did not help the rumours circulating that Muslims were receiving more government assistance, stealing housing from locals, and taking jobs from the residences of Lewiston, (WOSU, Muslims In Maine, 2002). Somalis are known for entrepreneurial skills, in starting a business out of nothing, and they value education very highly.
Islam is one of the three Abrahamic faiths, like Christianity and Judaism, Islam practices the belief of one God. Allah in Arabic means God and the submission to Allah are the most important belief in the Islamic …show more content…

Furthermore, when it comes to providing the care, if the patient is of opposite sex it’s encouraged to ask patient if they would prefer a health care provider of a particular gender. A dying Muslim will want her body facing towards Mecca, and after the patient is deceased, it is customary for the body to be covered with a white sheet and allow privacy for the family to recite the prayer. Muslims also do not consume pork products, so it would good to be aware that gelatin is present in medication
