The Islamic Golden Age through the 9th and 12th century consisted of advancements that helped better the life of many people. The fields of scholarship, literature, and architecture flourished in the Golden Age. People were living the life they had dreamed about and the economy was perfectly stable. There were not many hardships that the people of this time had to face due to the daily routines of the Islamic people. The community they lived in was fairly clean. Rubbish was collected in a donkey cart on a daily basis. The decent sanitary conditions upheld people’s health. The economy depended on hard-working healthy people during the Golden Ages to maximize the products being produced. These products would then be shipped to the main street and public squares to be traded and sold to businesses. The gardens in the neighborhood were considered to be places of paradise. The neighborhood was considered to be a perfect place for the average family to live. Crime rates were very low, and people didn’t have to fear for their safety. Overall, daily life for the Islamic people was a lot better compared to previous times. The advancements in architecture were so amazing that the Crusaders often took designs back with them to Europe to improve the Roman architecture. The scholars used old traditions for many things, but they also contributed new innovations and ideas which helped advance their society. With people learning new ideas every day it was clear that this century was the Golden Age for the Islamic people. One crucial innovation for the scholars in this time was paper. Traditionally, the Chinese secretly guarded the paper tightly so other civilizations couldn’t take advantage of this advancement. Paper could be used for scholars to write down the new ideas, which then could be passed on to different
KAILI HONG PER.3 THE ISLAMIC EXPANSION The early Islamic empire expanded in a couple of ways. One of the ways was the war. I found this evidence in document A where it says that the Muslims to fight gathered together to fight the Greeks. The Greeks would tie each others foots to each other so none of them would escape during the war.
There have been many Islamic achievements through time. Some of the most important Islamic achievements are having libraries, bookstores and schools. (Doc 2) Some others are art and calligraphy. (Doc. 6)
Between the years 1000 and 1450, trade networks, were rapidly being established throughout Africa, Asia, and Europe and becoming increasingly successful. The main idea of adjusting to culture by the Europeans differed heavily from the Muslims idea of spreading and influencing culture, which resulted in the Europeans suffering some cultural consequences. The documents imply that the Muslims culture was able to spread further while having a greater impression on travelers than the Europeans culture, which was focused on the exploration of other cultures and religious conversion. The Muslim culture was able to spread its culture, while trying to succeed in new surroundings, which allowed it to be spread further than the Europeans culture was
The Islamic Empire was huge, large, and untied. The early Islamic empire expanded by fiercely attacking and conquering other lands, as well as uniting them. To start off, In Document A (which is reliable because it happens to be written by Muslim historian Ahmad al-Biladuri in the 800s) it talks about how they killed 70,000 people. Even girls helped in creating a bloodbath which shows how fierce and strong they were on a battlefield and how they easily took more lands.
Cities in the Muslim World were often political centers, economic center and areas of religious importance during the post classical period. The Muslim World was a place of political centers due to being the foundation of the religion of Islam. Once Islam was created they wanted to spread its religion and it spread to other places and these other countries became Muslim cities. The Muslim world also had economical centers because when Islam spread, they set up trade routes that boosted the economy. As the cities developed they became of religious importance as they built religious structures, all in the Muslim world.
Golden Ages are periods in a civilization where culture, art, literature, economic stability, and often scientific discovery and advancement thrive. The Golden Ages of Athens, Han China, and India were marked by cultural and economic dominance of those respective cultures. All three Civilizations were able to influence regions far away from their borders through trade, and aspects of their cultures inspired the culture of neighboring peoples. The standard of living amongst all three civilizations was also notably high. However, the development of technology played a more crucial role for the Golden Ages of Han China and India, while in Athens dominance was mostly achieved through political control and Athens becoming the most important voice
Firstly, the Golden Ages contributed many aspects that greatly influenced future times. According to an excerpt from Gray C. Boyce [Document 6], even through the darkest of times Europe seemed to be always advancing and contributing innovative ideas. As trade increased, so did the ideas that generated stronger civilizations throughout Europe. Therefore, this document supports the Golden Age because it states that this period of time “later transmitted to later ages great riches”, this means that the achievements made later influenced future societies in a successful way. Due to these advancements, Europe had developed an edge upon other civilizations.
During the 600’s, Islam began to spread fast throughout the region, but they’re many reasons why Islam is still around today and has been successful in gaining followers since then. But why did it spread so fast? It could be because of the followers Muhammad had, and the routes that Islam traveled on that it became the phenomenon that it is today. Why is it a well known religion today? The devoted followers are the base of the answer.
The Ottoman and Mughal empires both used Islam in their culture, economy, wars, and society. It influenced their art, the way they treated non-Muslims, their motivations for war. It is important to note that both empires were influenced differently by their majority religion. However, both the Ottomans and Mughals were heavily influenced as Islam was a major part of everyday life from the art to the bureaucracy.
The impacts the Muslims made were made possible by the scale that the Islamic world and religion had grown to. In this specific document, from the audience of the author, the elephantine size of the Islamic culture at this time is being expressed. Like the former paragraph, the height of the trading industry was right after the golden age.
From 500 to 1500 AD Europe was not in a dark age, because of their advances with the Gothic Cathedrals, their conquests in the Crusades, and their organization within their Government. During 1163 through 1345 Europe had many architectural advancements, such as the Gothic Cathedral and the Notre Dame. According to the Gothic Cathedral document in Universities and Cathedrals it states,”Common features of gothic cathedrals included architectural innovations, including: large columns, high ceilings with ribbed vaults, flying buttresses, and large stained glass windows.” This quote supports that Europe was not in a dark age because it shows how many architectural innovations were made during this time period.
Islam is a religion, so how do you think it came about. Well because of trade, military conquest, and political order. All of these subjects are why Islam spread so quickly. In document A, the passage was talking about trade. During 570, in the Middle East Islam spread so quickly through trade.
The Ottoman Empire was a very simple, but productive empire to be a part of back in the 1400s. Their religious tolerance was very productive into growing their empire while making money and building up their army. For example, if you were Muslim, and in the army, you didn’t have to pay taxes, but if you weren’t Muslim, you paid taxes and couldn’t be in the army, which made people feel safe while still keeping their home. The Ottoman Empire’s cultural blending came by capturing the cities of Mecca and Medina which were the Holiest cities, also they captured Cairo for a learning center.
Islam Research The religion of Islam came about during the seventh century. Islam is one of the biggest and oldest religions out there. Muslims however believe that it did not start with Muhammad. A civilization’s architecture not only shows the artistic skills of its designers and builders but also the functionality of its engineers, the power of its government, and the inventiveness of its people. Architecture was a crucial element to the success of two major cites in Europe, Rome and Athens. Each city had structures consisting of formal architecture like temples and basilicas showing the influence that its leaders had over each city, while utilitarian buildings like bridges and aqueducts helped build communication between distant cities throughout each empire. Though architecture as a whole was an important role in unifying the cities, the architecture design within each illustrates the similarities and differences between two.
