It is clear by reading Jane Black’s case that she has many issues that could possibly affect her pregnancy, along with her own life. Other than the obvious problems listed in her chart, such as drowsiness, difficulty focusing, weakness in her right side, inability os full use of her hand, and constant thirst, as a social worker, I have potentially found other issues. It is stated that Mrs. Black has three young children, one who has Cystic Fibrosis. Mrs. Black must have a lot of stress on her as she is the one who constantly ensures that her child’s lungs are clear. Mrs. Black most likely is the parent who spends the majority of time taking care of her other kids as well. It is also stated that Mr. Black has tobacco stained fingers, and it
“...ugly-tempered lady, old Mistress Hibbins, was one... Black Man’s mark on thee…glows like a red flame when thou meetest him at midnight, here in the dark wood…” (Hawthorne 167). In the novel, Black Man is seen as the devil and also holds a book with iron clasps. “... he indistinctly beheld a form under the trees, clad in garments so sombre, and
Per Reporter: Christine and the baby tested positive for benzodiazepines and marijuana. The meconium test is pending. There were no birth defects; however, the nurse (unknown) mentioned that the baby is experiencing withdrawals (trimmers). Christine takes Subutex (methadone), which are prescribed.
“Let’s terminate the pregnancy and start again next month’” (Collins 167). It took a couple minutes to process the words I just read because the doctor made it sound like being pregnant was equivalant to writing the wrong word in pen. Pregnancy is actually pretty complicated when you put it into perspective because about it, there is another life being created inside a woman’s body. It just amazes how incompetent some people can be.
She has had no drug use, per her report, since early first trimester. She has struggles with anxiety/depression and PTSD, although she is not on any medication currently. She reports that she is doing well. She has used an SSRI in the past and reports that she did fairly well but was told to stop when
Burris had lice in his hair, which he squished like it was not a big deal. His neck was a different color from all the dirt he had on him. His hands had rust on them and his fingernails were black.
“Colored people don’t like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people don’t feel good about Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Burn it. Someone’s written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs?
Sakia Gunn was a fifteen-year-old black teen who was violently targeted for a murdering due to her identifying as a lesbian. Leah Lakshmi realized the magnitude of this hate crime and used it as a platform to bring awareness to the situation. There has been and currently exists a structural problem that consistently harms people of color. Historically hate crimes were blatant, showing up as lynchings and other publicly violent portrayals. However, recently hate crimes have become more invisible.
In 2008 the bill was signed and in 2010 national guidelines were issued to promote screening babies for life-threatening disorders” (“Jill”). March of Dimes wants to show the world that medicine is changing. New disorders and bacterial agents are being discovered, and the children of the future are at risk. New guidelines and treatments must be championed in order to save the mothers and fathers the heartache of losing a
Susan Cahill lives in Flathead Valley in Montana and was the only person in the area providing abortions to woman. Since Susan opened her clinic in 1976 she has been harassed by the local populace that do not condone abortions and her building was even burned down once, but she rebuilt it. However, in 2014 Flathead Resident Zachary broke into Susan 's clinic and performed acts of vandalism to the point where the entire clinic needed to be shut down. Since it was the only abortion clinic in Flathead, woman now need to drive to the 120 miles to Missoula just to get an abortion. Susan explains that the teenagers and the underserved population are the ones that lose the most from the clinic being destroyed because most of them can not afford to
Due to the complex nature of abortion and the surrounding issues, many ethical issues have risen in reasonable to the legislation of abortion. Currently in England abortion is legal, however it is not freely given at the request of a women. In order for a women to gain permission for a abortion to go ahead the signatures of two doctors is required on the basis of restrictive legal criteria. However is other places around the world such as countries in South America, and North Africa, women are prevented from being able to access abortions legally and safely. Mary Ann Warren highlights the issues surrounding not allowing women to access abortions.
It has been demonstrated that the possibility of a child being born with Down syndrome increases as the age of the mother increases, and clearly women have delayed their maternity especially
In order to assure that the health needs of incarcerated pregnant women are met by prison and jail administrations it is important for them to know the profile of these women before they enter the facility. These prisons should have resources, staff, and information ready for these special groups of women. Since these women represent a small portion of the facility, it may be difficult to provide special healthcare needs. However, these women should not be treated as if they were a standard inmate when in fact they are not. Courts in certain states claim that pregnancy does not constitute as a serious medical need, basically meaning that being pregnant is not an illness or disability (UCLA Women Law Journal, 2010).
In reflection to the readings, there are many arguments that are for or against abortion. Is abortion ever justified? In feminism point of view, Susan Sherwin believes, yes, abortion is justified because it focuses on woman’s right to abortion in a liberal aspect. She also believes that woman’s right that pregnant woman are the best judge when to considering to abort the fetus. That means, the autonomy is shifted to the woman.
Mary Anne Warren is a well-known American philosopher who has influenced the argument of the controversial issue, abortion. Today, I will be supporting Warren’s belief and theory on abortion solely being the woman’s choice and will do so by refuting other theories and philosophers including; John T Noonan, Judith Thompson, and Don Marquis. John T. Noonan revolves his argument of abortion around the idea of conception. According to Noonan, abortion is morally wrong because a being comes into existence at the point of conception. Also, being conceived by human parents automatically classifies the fetus as a human as well.
