Which may not sound like much, but they went from being responsible for a group of officers during the hours of a patrol shift, to becoming responsible for an entire section of the city 24/7. This case study indicates that the lieutenants struggled with this change in roles, but even more, the sergeants who inherited the soldiers ' former watch commander duties struggled. The case suggests that they were not well informed about the changes or their rationale and had not been given much training or support for their new responsibilities. It can become assumed that the sergeants felt they already had full-time jobs and then were suddenly saddled with additional work without much explanation or preparation. The Chief indicated that, in retrospect, he should have had the sergeants more involved in the change process.
He explains that we need to reform as a community not just as a police department. He gave strong statistics on crime levels to which his jurisdiction covered. As for the satisfaction in Melvin Russell’s speech, He proposed an understanding in the community towards law enforcement. He talks about how the world has made law enforcement very harsh and thick skinned. Throughout this portion of his speech, Russell has a very conversational tone of voice but yet very professional.
For me it is a very exciting to learn about each case of police brutality and dive into it to see why what happened, happened. The issue seems to be so wide that it is not a clear cut yes or no issue on determining if it is a targeted act or not, which drives me to even more because it is something I can learn more about. Lastly, it seems like something that can bring people together if we can agree on a way to help fix the accidental brutality cases, but instead it does not do that which makes it even more compelling to me. I know that police brutality can either be accidental or used when a police officer is trying to defend him or herself. Another thing that I know and have observed about this issue is that it hasn’t just sprung up, but instead it has become more easily brought to our attention because of people filming these intendents and posting them on their social media pages.
Is militarization of the police resolving or creating more problems? Militarization of the police has been in the news a lot lately, the escalation in Ferguson, Missouri led to the United States government giving military equipment to local police . The government and citizens are supposed to work together but still do their own jobs, one of the jobs of the government is to protect ,which means ensure the safety. The United States is causing a mass overwrought and making citizens think that the police are murders, but there are distressing people everywhere. Here is exactly what a portion of the United State thinks from TheDailyUtah ‘’From tanks rolling down the streets in Ferguson, Mo., to cops in riot gear in downtown Salt Lake City, there has been a growing national conversation over the militarization of police, the idea that local law enforcement agencies are becoming too much like the military.”.
“It has to be something significant to you. You have to carry it around every day of your life,” he said. Hiring challenges With increasingly relaxed policies on visible tattoos, especially those that predate employment, local agencies are better able to tap into a shrinking pool of candidates. “You hate to pass up good people. A lot of military veterans have tattoos,” said Zimmerly, noting, “Pickings are kind of think for candidates and you hate to limit it more.”
Many people do not understand that police use this tactic for their own protection, but they do know that at times they use it when they do not need to. In the case like Eric Gardner in New York, use of force was required because he did not want to be handcuffed and there was a superior comparison physically to the cops. According to the magazine when should cops use force it states, “once things get physical, officers have little choice but to jump in as quickly as possible (Moskos, 2014).” The use of force can be judged proportionally by what happens before the act because if officers allow people to get physically, it will not only put the officer in danger, but also those around. Eventually, there are other strategies to use rather than the use of force.
Police officers have one of the key job than other jobs because they have to protect people and other stuff from potential thread. But considering the fact, not every officer is the same and some of them good or bad. Since police departments have established, police started to use unnecessary force against people. Police brutality is becoming one the hardest issues to solve. Solving this problem wouldn’t be hard if we could identify explanation, effect on society, and some solutions of this problem.
Law enforcement agencies spend tremendous resources recruiting and hiring new officers. Before recruits can become law enforcement professionals, they must undergo comprehensive tests, severe background examinations, and extensive physical training sessions. Regardless of the complications associated with identifying and training recruits, it seems that numerous police agencies throughout the nation are having difficulty retaining their officers. Many of the officers no longer are satisfied with their jobs, agencies or maybe their managers. With the loss of many police officers not only does it create significant economic problems for the agencies, but they lower confidence and minimize public safety.
Police brutality will be an issue until a solution is created. Many individuals are victims of this form of assault on daily basis. The liberties held by law enforcement are challenged each time they perform their duties. Police officers should abide by the same laws that each citizen is expected to abide by. Although police officers are granted with the right to determine laws as constitutional, civilians are sometimes treated in ways that are beyond unlawful.
Many youth are unemployed because they have just come from high school and they do not have enough work experience to get a job. Adults are more likely to be unemployed because of physical and mental health challenges. Adults also tend to be unemployed because of cyclical, structural and frictional unemployment. Unemployment also goes into hand with homelessness and panhandling, because there is not enough jobs people are ending up homeless and looking for other ways to get money. Why are youth more likely to be unemployed than adults, and is unemployment among youth becoming a social problem?
Thirdly, I believe that flexibility is very important today with the employees, because if the working hours are not flexible, they tend to either do not prefer working here or when they get the opportunity they move out. So if wee summarize, in my experience I believe that wages, growth and flexibility are the main reasons that cause turnover in the
Policing has seen much progress. Some reforms do work, and some types of abuse have been reduced. Today, among both police officials and rank and file officers, it is widely recognized that police brutality hinders good law enforcement. Whenever a new case of police brutality comes to light, people in the community must respond politically to ensure justice for the victim. These actions must be timely to be truly effective.
Salvarez: Yes, the general public does not always have the education to be able to elect a suitable candidate for this demanding job. The voting public is also not always interested in what is best, sometimes it is what is aesthetically pleasing or a political facade. Ms. Mejia: Could you explain to our listeners what judicial review is? Mrs. Salvarez: Of course, the quickest way to summarize judicial review is having the power to review and cancel laws if they are determined unconstitutional, it also holds the power to undo public policy.
Any time a scandal of this magnitude is exposed; donors tighten their grip on contributions, making it difficult for the thousands of honest and hard-working nonprofit charities to secure resources for their organizations. 2-c. Wounded Warrior Project –This recent scandal will halt donations from many supporters of the WWP organization, causing more suffering to our wounded and disabled veterans. Though many projects will continue, several issues will stall important operations within the charity. With limited sources of assistance, our veterans depend on volunteers, donations and funding from outside the US Federal Government. 3-c.
As one flicks through the news, he or she may be startled or shocked to discover the sheer amount of police cruelty occurring in public space. As an extension of government, the police inherit the same powers involving public space. Although they cannot create new policies, they act to enforce the policies designed by the government. Police are often mistakenly advertised as a source of protection for citizens. However, Anderson refuses to neglect the truth: they are the villains.
