Whitney woke up to a knock on his door when the steward told him that breakfast was ready. He woke up eager to find his friend and continue their journey to the Amazon. Upon arriving at the dining hall he noticed Rainsford was not there, confused, he started to his partner's bedroom to see what was causing his absence. He began knocking on the door a couple of times, and out of frustration he barged into the room, swinging the door open, he saw no Rainsford. He was very puzzled, so he asked one of the stewards whether he has seen him this morning, with the answer of no, he knew in his mind that something was wrong. In the evening everyone on the yacht was aware that Rainsford was missing. It would have taken a couple days before they reached their destination in order to file a ‘missing …show more content…
Whitney was now all by himself on the yacht with no one to talk to and just his thoughts floating in his brain. He remembered all the great memories they had together in the Americas, traveling to find new animals to hunt, winning awards and trophies together. They were the perfect pair, the best team, unstoppable, but now he was gone. As these thoughts wandered, all the bad memories slid in, all the arguments, the press and their false accusations about their friendship and partnership, all the things that almost tore them apart. He thought about all the articles that will fill with headlines of “The best hunter missing?” and “Who hunted the hunter?”. He could not help but think about the press and their theories. Then he began to really think, what if they say it was my fault. I know we’ve had our misunderstandings, but I would never… would I? No, I would never get rid of Rainsford, even though he is my biggest competition. All of a sudden he started to convince himself that he was responsible for his disappearance. He could no longer think straight. He needed to rest, he thought, but on his way to his suite he began to disgust himself, how could I? Why would I do such a
When an unfortunate accident throws Rainsford overboard, he stays calm (Connell 28). In this sudden event, he needs to stay calm, and he does that very well. From this point, he immediately looks around and surveys to find a place to go that isn’t stranded in the ocean. “General, I wish to leave this island at once” (Connell 36). Hearing all about the island and General Zaroff makes Rainsford decide he needs to leave.
In the story Connell uses foreshadowing to reveal that Rainsford will be hunted. For example Zaroff states, “you’ve a
“Whitney? Whitney! Come back! Please, not again!” Screamed Rainsford, voice hoarse from his constant cries. Rain pounded on him, and the midnight-like sea was trying to pull him into its depths.
Many people would consider a survivor as someone who goes through physical hardships in life, like surviving a car crash. While this is true, some survivors are just in a tough set of circumstances. "Most Dangerous Game" is a story written by Richard Connell about Sanger Rainsford who is brave in his situation. "My Escape from North Korea" is written about and by Hyeonseo Lee and her determination during her young adult life. " Trapped" is a real-life experience faced by Aron Ralston that displays his inner-strength.
Once the captain leaves Rainsford hears gunshots and goes to check it out when all heck breaks loose. “An abrupt sound startled him. Off to the right he heard it, and his ears, expert in such matters, could not be mistaken. Again he heard the sound, and again. Somewhere, off in the blackness, someone had fired a gun three times.
This quote is significant for many reasons. First it shows that Whitney wants her first time to be special, and that she won’t just do it with anyone. This is very admirable especially because some of her friends have done it, and peer pressure must be weighing in. Another reason why I love this quote is because it shows the invisible link between Gregor and Whitney.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the main character Rainsford had gotten stranded on a dangerous island where Zaroff, a Russian Cossack General, hunted humans for sport. He feels that God put the weak on earth to give the strong pleasure, and up until it was his turn to be hunted, so did Rainsford. Earlier in the story Rainsford had stated, “The world is made up of two classes-- the hunters and the huntees.” And as harsh as it may sound, it is technically correct. The world is made of hunters and huntees, predator and prey.
Initially, Rainsford feels that animals being hunted do not understand or feel the terror that a hunter puts upon the animal. He thinks he will always be a hunter and does not care if the animals have an understanding of being hunted. Then when he meets Zaroff, the tables are turned and now Rainsford is being hunted. Lastly, Rainsford has the opportunity to murder Zaroff quickly, but he chooses to make it a fight. Rainsford over the course of three days has completely flipped his opinion on those that are hunted and those that
”(The Most Dangerous Game) This shows that Rainsford has learned the theme of the story because when he says that he is saying that he is still a trapped animal that has to fight back. This shows that he now knows how it felt to be hunted, and to be trapped and having to fight back and take risks to survive. Before the events that occurred in the story Rainsford had no idea how the animals felt and didn’t care how they felt, but after those events he knew how they felt and thought while being hunted and definitely cared about how they felt because he knew how much it hurt
Andy: Imagine you are stranded on an island, starving and thirsty. You have managed to build a fire and have pushed through countless rainy nights. You are using the skills of a survivor. These skills have been used by other survivors such as Hyeonseo Lee, a North Korean who escaped her country. Aron Ralston uses survival traits to survive being trapped in between a boulder and a wall of rock.
To begin with, the story conveys the idea of human superiority through the beliefs of the protagonist. The story begins on a yacht where Whitney, the protagonist’s companion, and Rainsford are discussing the concept of hunting animals. When Whitney states that hunting is a great sport for only the hunter, but not the animal being hunted, in
He wants to leave right away. Rainsford was antsy but after spending more time on the island he became nervous especially when Zaroff said “The hunting was not good last night. The fellow lost his head. He made a straight trail that offered no problems at all. (Connell 30).
Rainsford falls off a boat and makes his way to an island where he finds a rather large house. He knocks at the door where he is greeted unpleasantly by a deaf and dumb man with a gun. Moments after a meets General Zaroff a hunter who is familiar with Rainsford. Zaroff feeds him and gives him a place to sleep until Rainsford is healthy then gives him a choice.
Hunters believe animals are not capable of reasoning and they see them as something lesser than humans. Throughout time, these positions can change. The short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” written by Richard Connell, consists of General Zaroff being the hunter and Rainsford being the hunted. During the story, their positions change to the complete opposite.
I believe that the title of the story “The Most Dangerous Game“ written by Richard Connell is linked to us as human beings, and that the title is saying that humans are the most dangerous game. For example in The Most Dangerous Game we learn that on the night Rainsford meets general Zaroff we get a lot of information about Zaroff 's ideal game to hunt. "I wanted the ideal animal to hunt," explained the general. "So I said, `What are the attributes of an ideal quarry? ' And the answer was, of course, `It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason."
