As I am near the end of my writing 102 course, I have been reflecting on my experience and studies this semester . while the course was focused on the study of English writing. The lessons that I took were extremely useful. I will demonstrate how did this course helped me improve my self knowledge, writing knowledge, and critical knowledge. The writing 102 course helped me understand many things about the way I think and they way I handle things, it improved my Self knowledge .When I left the writing 101 course and entered the writing 102 course I thought that this course would be very easy since it is similar to 101.
I then found additional quotes from credible sources that could further support my argument and used them to make an annotated bibliography. Next, I collaborated with two of my peers in order to peer edit each other's essays and then made these changes to my essay. Finally, I added in the additional quotes from my annotated bibliography sources. I have gotten better at this kind of work because I have learned how to expand my vocabulary and use formal language with less dead verbs. I have improved greatly upon this, but I have room to improve even more.
So far in AP Language and Composition, we have learned how to critically analyze texts using rhetorical and literary analysis. I feel comfortable with literary analysis because of how frequently and often I have been doing it in the past couple of years. Regarding rhetorical analysis we have learned diverse types of appeals used in rhetoric, appealing to a reader’s emotions using pathos, an ethical appeal using ethos, or appealing to a reader’s logic using logos. These skills and concepts are completely new to me and I am still beginning to understand how to use these appeals in my writing strategically. However, I feel more confident in finding these appeals in other rhetorical texts, including ads and speeches, because of how much practice
I selected WRTG 101 because it was a required class towards my undergraduate degree. This is a class that I should have taken earlier in my pursuit of my degree; it would have been extremely beneficial to me with my writing assignments for other classes. Being a student of WRTG 101 employs me to use my critical thinking skills in conjunction to my writing skills. Prior to taking this class, I thought that my writing skills were above average; however this class has provided instruction and feedback that I needed improvement in several areas. Each Monday, I would log onto UMUC.com to read the Course Content/Alerts to see what the status of my progress.
Many people would agree that language is something that makes people conscious beings. A person can use it for communication, an essential tool for sharing ideas that massively contributed to the development of the human civilization. Moreover, there are many ways to express oneself with a help of words. Furthermore, the quality of language depends on knowledge. If a person knows words, definitions, language structure, can read and write, it gives an individual an immense scope of possibilities, from reading books to writing letters, as well as delivering speeches.
Understanding my peers strengths and weakness helps me translate what I can do with my writing. A writer that has stronger writing skills gives me the advantage to improve my writing skills just by proofreading. When I am reading my essay aloud, I do not notice writing errors until someone else reads. When reviewers are confused with parts of my paper, I take what they say into consideration and change what I wrote. In this class, we had a peer revision for our writing process essay.
As an English student this semester, I have learned how to develop essays in an appropriate educated way in English 101. I have learned how to find and properly use different sources in my essays as well as improving on MLA format. This class has also improved my writing skills in my work place. I presently work as a secretary for a company, and my job consists of writing letters to people from time to time. The skills that I have learned has dramatically improved those letters, allowing them to appear more professional.
Reading and Writing are Important Stephen King's "Reading to Write" (72) give details about King's methods on becoming a better writer. To become a better writer, you must read a whole heap of books. There are so many other things you can read other than books like magazines, newspapers, labels on food, and papers. As a student in college, I understand Stephen King's methods. Reading and Writing will help me further my college education, and it will help me get to my goal.
I like to learn new things in English, and I like to learn new things even more when they make sense to me. In the past English seemed to get better and better every year. Since we started to read more books in in class, I started to like English even more, since I like reading. The teachers in the past English classes seemed like nice people and the classmates were not so bad either. I like how every year in English the classes get harder and harder because then I have to use my brain even more.
McCarthy to inspire students to strive for excellence in whatever we do. I also suggest we have a mini field trip to a museum or a library so other students could pick out books to read and write essays on to improve their writing. Another piece of advice for future classes is to have those classes even though they pass the diagnostic essay to go over briefly the writing process as well as have them go over 20 common errors and helpful hints like we had this year those two handouts really helped improved my essays little by little. The writing class is already amazing with or without my advice, I hope I can come back and put my input one day into Dr. PHP class and become one of her many teaching assistants. I also want to try my hand at teaching her class, even though I have stage fright and I start to stutter when I am in front of people but I hope that I can overcome that and give the class knowledge of my understanding on a lesson or
This semester I completed Composition 2. During the course I wrote three essays. Like Composition 1, I had the option to rewrite my papers after seeing the grade. Having the chance to rewrite my papers was very beneficial because I could improve my grade, and more importantly, learn what I was doing wrong. Amongst my writings, three major flaws stood out.
