Jack is excited for the hockey tryouts he’s hoping to make a better team for his club but the kids on that team are very good. Jack is the best on the stars but there team is not good, jack has never really gave extra practice or show the coaches he really wants to be on the team. A few days later jack gets home from school. When he walks thru the door his mom says ’’You made the stars” in a happy way I guess she likes this team. Jack was not so happy about the team. When jack went to school and everybody was asking what team he made jack did not want to answer them but he had to so he told them. All of jack’s friend made the All-Stars. Jack’s shift scored the most goals Liam (2) jack (2). When Jack's team lost kids on the older team were making fun of jack’s team even though Jack didn’t like his team he still stuck up for them and him. So they went to the older teams locker and put a paint bucket over the door. They all walked in and the team got paint all over them for revenge. Jack’s starts to rent the ice when his season ends. He works on skating and shooting. By the end of the practice he had you could see the white netting covered in black spots. Jack went again the day after, at the end of the practice he stepped off the ice and a coach from the All-Stars stopped him and said ‘’Wow your very fast and have a good shot, you should tryout for our club.” Jack told him “I mainly work on skating and shooting, yeah i'm going to tryout i play on the Star.” Jack sat down for dinner in his head he was thinking tryouts already he didn’t feel prepared. He whined to his father, “why can’t school be as easy as shooting a jumpshot”. In the short story "Rite of Passage" by Doug Beardsley, the narrator is an inexperienced but determined hockey player. At the beginning of the story the narrator is unable to succeed as well as the other players "…I'd missed yet another check…" More importantly he is incapable of playing hockey at the same level as his brother. The narrator does not have great agility in his skating technique, yet he is still determined to do all he can to succeed “I don’t know what I did but it worked.” He was able to get around his brother and score a goal on his own. After scoring a goal, the narrator no longer feels below his brother "I received a new, quiet respect from my brother."
