While a leader can be defined as the person who commands a group or as the one who is selected to run the show and call the shots per say, our 6th president John Quincy Adams embodied the character traits of a true leader. Although he only served one term as president, his leadership and service to our nation as both a diplomat before his presidency and in the United States House of Representatives after his presidency exemplify that a leader does not have to be elected to the top office to shape an organization even as important as our nation. In middle school, I decided I would try out for our school competition cheer squad that competes at a high level in the sport. I practiced with an older member of the team for several weeks to prepare for the tryout day.
In today’s highly litigious society it is of utmost importance for an education leader to have a good understanding of rules and regulations pertaining to the field of education. The program at Bethel University has prepared me for a leadership role in a school system. This is evident in the knowledge that I have attained while enrolled in the instructional leadership endorsement program at Bethel University. During the 10 months in the program, I have become knowledgeable about a wide range of instructional leadership content which will prepare me for a role as a leader. Throughout the coursework, I have learned how important a vision and mission statement is to the success of the school. If the leadership is not effective the school will not be successful. I realize that leadership can be shared. As an administrator, I can distribute leadership to others in the school that are a part of the leadership team, such as the academic coach, counselor or lead teachers. I have learned that an administrative should always be honest, fair, trust worthy, open minded, and lead by example.

As we went through the second simulation, internal partnerships and mission motivated my decisions. Leaders must address stakeholder concerns if we plan to enter into this or any other form of partnership. University-corporate partnerships have an established history (Ryan & Heim, 1997), which will help us glean insight to make them work for our stakeholders.
Leadership in early childhood brings out a lot of responsibilities and the need to be able to maintain quite a lot of skills. Some of the skills which are needed in the early education sector are “communication, decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal and organizational skills,” (Narasimhan, 2012) this helps the leader to be able to encourage and support the team to achieve the goals. “Successful leaders” use their team member’s individual abilities to help create powerful ideas, plans and a focused vision for the future. Leaders of an early education service should be able to bring their individuality into the service and carry out responsibilities by being charismatic, outgoing, influential, and philosophical or action oriented.
