Jacques Cartier was a French navigator, sent by the King of France to explore North America for gold, and to find a path to Asia. Cartier wanted to claim a part of the New World for France and that is one of the reasons why he planned on his voyages. People should know about him because he gave Canada its name. Also, I think Jacques Cartier did had a positive effect on us because he discovered Prince Edward Island and was the first explorer of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Cartier started to collect minerals that he thought were gold and diamond, but when he returned to France, he found that the gold and diamond was more than mineral deposits, which was fake. I believe that Cartier was such an important person because he helps to establish relationship
Norsemen were the first settlers of Canada between the 9th and 10th century. Raids and continuous migration drove away the Scandinavian from their homeland. The country would not be discovered again till 1534 by Jacques Cartier. Cartier discovered Canada on his second voyage and found an alternative path that led to Canada. Fast forward to the transcontinental railroad era, the colonies Nova Scotia, News Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island were divided and the nation needed to be reformed.

On the second Monday of October in 1492, Christopher Columbus is appreciated for founding the Americas. Christopher is very honored for his duty to find the Americas. The second Monday of October is actually his birthday, but we celebrate how thankful we are to have Christopher Columbus seek the Americas. Some people don’t appreciate his discovery because he wanted to send all the slaves that can be sold to find gold. He really wanted gold so much so he was greedy.
Do you think Columbus day would be a day worth celebrating? On October 12, 1492 Christopher Columbus had found America. There are many reasons why Christopher's discovery is celebrated, and why people disagree to honor him. Mostly, everyone thinks Chris is a fantastic man because of exploring America. Some people think Christopher was a horrible person.
“The US honors 2 people with holidays bearing their names. Martin Luther King Jr, who gave his life combatting the legacy of slavery, and Christopher Columbus, who initiated it in the first place. (Confronting Columbus)”. Christopher Columbus, often known as a brave adventurer, was actually a perpetrator of genocide. Columbus Day should not be celebrated because of the horrendous behavior Columbus showed off, between the atrocities committed against the Natives and the self-absorption Columbus had, shows that he is not in fact a hero, but instead a villain.
John Jay was not the most loved of our Founding Fathers but his leadership in significant events did help lead to the writing of the Constitution. He was elected the president of the First and Second Continental Congress. Which indicates others were able to notice his excellent leadership skills. These congresses were important because they helped plan boycotts against the British, issued the Declaration of Independence ,put together the Continental Army and created the Articles of Confederation which were all necessary steps to get us to the writing of the Constitution. The fact that he was the head overseer of the arranging of all these things shows his prestige.

In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.

The first painting I chose was painted by Gustave Courbet in 1849. This is painting of young boy and an older man breaking stones to provide paving for a road. Courbet took a glimpse in into the life of the rural menial laborers. This backbreaking, poorly paid work fell to the lowest members of French Society, as the breakers tattered garments and utensils for a modest meal of soup confirm. Courbet suggested that those born to poverty will remain poor their entire lives.
