America and Guatemala are very different cultures; sometimes these cultures can be viewed in a poor light or it can be viewed in an interesting light, but I think these differences are very interesting and nice. One big difference that can be seen is that America loves upgrading technology and making technology to make life easier. In Guatemala, it is not like that. Guatemala does have some technology like smart phones and new types of cars, but if something is fine how it is, it is not upgraded and not much technology is made that would supposedly make their lives easier.
It is because of Christopher Columbus that we know more about how our world is and its history. Christopher Columbus had a huge impact in history and our lives today by sailing and learning more about our land. Some of Columbus biggest challenges were that everyone already had their minds set on how the Earth was and people didn’t agree his beliefs. Columbus had to find ways to sail across the ocean. He discovered things that he came across and accomplished things he set his mind to.
“Tomorrow morning before we depart, I intend to land and see what can be found in the neighborhood.” - Christopher Columbus (Columbus) Christopher Columbus’s journey, luck or success? America might not exist or be called what it is today without Columbus’s exploration. In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean in search for Asia and instead discovered America. Christopher Columbus made a great change in history because he found the “New World” which later became known as the Americas.
I agree with James Baldwin what he said about the education because, he said look at the world self not by what other people told us and feel the world what you want to be. Also to try fight for education no matter what rick. Education is important things, which is making our dream come true in the future.
Most, if not all of us, are aware of the fact we are required to go to school-the reason behind this are the controversial compulsory education laws. There have many many different forms of compulsory education in past times. In the Roman societies it was expected of young people to study under someone who had an education. Whenever attending school became mandatory in the United States there was a lot of controversy. On one hand, you had people who loved the idea of their kids having to go to school for a set number of years and the state providing it. On the other hand, there were and still are many who are oppose to it. They claim that making kids go to school for a certain portion of their lives is unconstitutional. In the end, though, there are multiple laws in place that set the guidelines for the attendance of people in school. Although there are many people who feel they should decide whether their kid gets an education I believe it is important for students to attend school-whether or not they feel they will sue the information it will give them the skills to grow as a person
Loewen argues, “The authors of history textbooks have taken us on a trip of their own, away from the facts of history, into the realm of myth.” As historical events regress further into the past, writers may misinterpret facts that they may have studied. A story of discovery and friendship or a tale of conquest, murder, and greed, which of these are Christopher Columbus’ true stories? I believe the best method to teach American high school students about Christopher Columbus’ story is through historiography because historiography teaches students to compare and distinguish different outlooks from different writers’ point of views instead of just remembering misinterpreted facts. Historiography would guide and force students to study and learn history through a diverse set of historians who focused on the same subject and come to different conclusions. Historiography sets a better stage for an understanding of a subject and opens up a boarder class discussion dialog.
When I was in elementary and middle school, I was always taught that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. What I was not taught was the toll it took on the Natives in the Americas. Also, we were not taught about Christopher Columbus’ role before his voyage, such as his slave holdings. I found that article interesting because it gave me information that I was not taught so for in my education. I learned the reason for Columbus’ fame: the Founding Fathers needed a hero. I also learned that Columbus was both loved and hated when he was alive. He spread propaganda that he convinced himself was true. Throughout his life, both in Europe and the Americas, he overstepped his authority. In one case, he was “slap-happy” to enslave people. Although slavery was not entirely legal without cause, he enslaved people all too willingly. Also, it was later decided that he participated in genocide, and he was even said to be worse than Hitler. After reading all of this, I found it most interesting that he never intended to kill the Indians, although his actions were never documented to prove this was against his cause.
There are two journeys that everyone is surely to be acquainted with: the Christopher Columbus voyage to America and Charles Lindbergh’s flight across the Atlantic Ocean. There are similarities that are very visible to the basic mind. However, there are also major contradictions, differences, and changes that took place within the 400 year time gap.
The accomplishments of Christopher Columbus should be celebrated because in spite of his faults, he was able to free the downtrodden Europeans, create a land of diversity, cultural acceptance and freedom, and by celebrating him, celebrate ethnic heritage and education. Columbus was “a noble-minded visionary who opened up new land of opportunity for the oppressed masses of Europe,” (M. Castronovo Fusco 1) giving way to a great new nation that upheld diversity and independence. Even though Columbus and his voyages had horrible flaws, “the symbolism of Christopher Columbus was that of a voyage of freedom. It really was the start of globalization of our world” (M. Castronovo Fusco 1). Without Columbus, the Old World and New World would not have connected and important technology and agricultural trade and tips would not have been exchanged.
I can see them in the office. Kids who have been fighting and now they 're getting suspended. These kids will have bad grades because all the days they missed in school. Many of these kids will turn around and get in more fights and eventually fail school. I read an article called “In L.A., policy shift yield decline in school suspensions” by Christine Armario. Schools in L.A. are talking to kids in order that they won 't have to kick them out. Some of these kids have gang problems. When kids are talking to one another, they learn how to communicate with each other instead of fighting. Kids should learn to talk to each rather than get kicked out because they will learn more.
Kids still go to school but they do not learn the same things because the government has decided to make it so, “School is shortened, discipline relaxed, philosophies, histories, languages dropped, English and spelling gradually gradually neglected, finally almost completely ignored” (55). School is like this because the government does not want their citizens to be smarter than them or to get any ideas about how things could be, instead of what they are now. Clarisse used to go to school but not anymore because she does not like how she is taught or what she is taught. A typical school day is, “An hour of TV class, and hour of basketball or baseball or running, another hour of transcription history or painting pictures, and more sports, but do you know, we never ask questions or at least most don’t; they just run the answers at you, bing, bing, bing, and us sitting there for four more hours of film teacher. That’s not social to me at all. It’s a lot of funnels and a lot of water poured down the spout and out the bottom and them telling us it’s wine when it’s not” (29-30). Clarisse makes a good point about being flung a bunch of information from the tv teacher that the kids never remember. Students also do not ask any questions which is what school was based upon in the past. Because kids are sitting still all day with almost no break and they are not being taught any
What is the purpose of education? We seldom think of this. Briefly, the purpose of education is to bring about physical, mental and social development of an individual. Education, if simply stated, means the process of gaining knowledge, inculcating forms of proper conduct and acquiring technical competency. It involves the cultivation of an innocent mind, the instilling of values and principles in the minds of children. It includes the development of skills along with the achievement of one 's physical, mental and social development. To put it in technical terms, education consists of defined phases starting from formal education that consists of primary, secondary and higher education and ideally it never ends.
Education is a conscious and well planned effort to create an atmosphere of learning actively developing it is potential to have spiritual power religious, selfhating, personality, intelligence, noble character and skill it needs, society nation and state ( UU No.20 Tahun 2003)
The most important part of school is learning about history. Math is important, as is english. But it’s important to reflect more about the past and present, so we can have a better future. There is a lot of history, but surprisingly it is limited. We learn the basics such as: the Trail of Tears, World War 1 and 2, and Christopher Columbus “discovering” America. These are important aspects of history, but when do we get to learn about the Natives that settled here first? The African Americans who resided in Africa before slavery? As well as anything about Asian Americans that doesn’t involve the laws that disrespected them during the mid 1900s? Schools should teach ethnic studies to students so we can combat negative stereotypes and prejudice,
Good morning everyone, I am glad to meet you all in this morning. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that some of you may be confused about that whether the education is important in this world. It is because some of you don’t even know the world would change by education. However, if someone asked me, in my opinion, I will answer yes, I totally agree that the education is important in this world. As the proverb says, “Education is the most powerful weapon in the world”. We always emphasise that the education is important in our lives because it gives people the basic survival skills to explore this wonderful world. With education, people would be able to communicate, calculate, read and write. Moreover, many people also believe education is essential for nearly every type of job because we are always weighed in this competitive market which is based on our educational
