The second amendment states that people have a right to bear arms under a well-regulated militia. This amendment was added to the Bill of Rights because the Americans had just finished fighting The American Revolution with the British government for independence-- Gun control by the British was one of the catalysts of this war. With the revolution fresh in mind, the Americans had registered that there was a need to unite and form a union; however, some Americans felt that a union could result in something similar to the tyranny that the British had imposed on them. They were hesitant of placing the power on a small handful of people-- The second amendment helped take some power from the government and give it to the people.

Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed. However, a definite solution still has not been reached and America is split on the topic. The solutions currently enacted focus on guns, yet America still has a serious issue with gun related crime attacks, and fatalities. Solutions should not solely target the actual guns, because guns are powerless without the person who fires the weapon. The solution should not be to take away guns, but to consider the people who have access to them. Addressing mental health is the real solution to preventing gun violence and attacks.

In contrast, Opponents believe that arms should have regulations because they cause violence, such as mass shootings and murder. It was between letting the people keep their weapons or to not let the people keep their weapons. The Bill of Rights was passed by congress on September 25, 1789 and was ratified on December 15 , 1791. James Madison and George Manson contributed to the bill rights. In the website, “Bill of Rights Institute,” the “Bill of Rights of The United States of America (1791)” explains the history of the Bill of Rights. At first 17 amendments were agreed on at the house but only 12 out of those 17 were approved. From there , only 10 were passed after being sent to the rest of the states.The bill of rights was created because of a conflict between the Anti-federalists and federalists.The federalists agree that a bill of rights was required.

The Second Amendment states that one has the right to bear arms. This right can be taken away from one when they do some sort of crime that goes against this and gets their right taken away from them. Around 3 million americans carry a gun with they all the time with a concealed weapons permit. That number is 20% out of the 15 million americans that have a concealed weapons permit. We should not get rid of the right to carry a concealed weapon though there are exceptions depending on the person and their history. Instead of ever getting rid of this privilege we should do through background checks on every person that registers for a concealed weapons permit. This would limit the risks of putting a weapon into the hands of someone that has harmful intentions. Doing this can’t stop everything, there are a lot of different situations where it can’t be prevented by just doing a background check. For one a person could become mentally ill and could cause harm to others.

The 26th amendment states “The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.” My opinion on the 26 amendment is that the voting age should be lowered to 16 instead of 18. I also believe the 2nd amendment should be change which also expresses “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Changing the 26th amendment could gradually increase society being safer.

The right to bear arms has been a favoured constitutional law since its establishment in 1791, but as more gun related violence and accidents occur, there has been increasing debate on whether or not guns should be banned in the US altogether, and if not, what regulations should be required for the purchase and handling of them. While guns should not be completely banned from the country, the rules and regulations of gun laws should be tightened. In the 2nd amendment, it clearly states that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” While this statement still holds true, the evolution of firearms and how they have become more dangerous throughout the years is a clear sign of why the laws should be changed.

The founding fathers were revolutionary and implacable in the sense that they endeavored to achieve one goal: American liberty. Thus, they desired to form a country whereby citizens possessed considerable rights, including a significant influence on the government. From what I have read, the founding fathers’ vision has been holistically achieved; however, a few of the amendments that may have seemed imperative during the time of the founding fathers should be tweaked, due to society’s changes since then.

There has been talk over the years about repealing the second amendment. The right to bear arms should not be repealed. It is a very important amendment for many reasons. A few of those reasons include hunting, self-defense, and recreational purposes, like competitions.

In 1776 our founding fathers wrote the Bill of Rights, ten rights that all American citizens would have. These rights protect and ensure the rights of all citizens from any government intervention. The second amendment guarantees that the right to own guns won’t be taken away. Many today do not realize why this amendment is here and believe that it is outdated, this is very wrong. A common misconception is that guns are only used for hunting and you don’t need and AR15 to hunt. Not only is that false but the second amendment has nothing to do with hunting. The second amendment is there to protect American citizens from any threats to their livelihood, whether that be a robber, any form of civil unrest, a foreign army invading or even a dangerous animal, the America people have always needed the safety of guns. Almost daily there are stories of guns saving lives that go unnoticed. Today many people are against gun ownership because they have never needed to use them or can afford body guards so that they won’t need to own guns themselves. Many claim that gun violence is on the rise and is the next plague on American society, while this couldn’t be farther from the truth. The debate of gun control presents an ethical dilemma in deciding which rights afforded by the US Constitution are more important. The ethical debate places the rights afforded in the Second Amendment to bear arms against the rights afforded in the First Amendment to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The ethical predicament has roots in societal views of violence and how it is observed by both sides of the debate.
