The Russian mobilization plans were based on a war against Germany and Austria-Hungary. So when the Czar ordered a partial mobilization of the Russian army against Austria-Hungary, they could not partially mobilize due to the plans. Czar Nicholas II ordered his army to continue with the full mobilization, even though he knew Germany would consider this as an act of war.

While the world was focused on battle in Europe, the Ottoman Empire began a systematic campaign to eliminate the Armenian people within its borders. Ottoman authorities created a propaganda campaign claiming that Armenians were a threat to national security, in part because of some Armenians’ support of Russia in the ongoing World War. Armenians were arrested, tortured, and killed. The women and girls were raped and some were kidnapped into a life of sexual servitude. The genocide ended in 1923 and Turkey’s new leader Mustafa Kemal and expelled all remaining Armenians.

How significant was control of the media in the achievement of communist political dominance in the years 1917-1941? A communist government assumed control of the USSR in 1917, following the Bolshevik Revolution. 1) How did Joseph Stalin control Russia? As the leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin utilized totalitarianism, characterized as total centralized control over every aspect of public and private life. He achieved this form of government by means of control of the media, religious and ethnic persecution and police terror. The tide of war changed for the Soviets at the Battle of Stalingrad. At the battle, the Red Army defeated the Nazis and eventually drove them from Russia. Stalin would go on to attend the meetings of the Allied Powers, and would become a loyal ally. Stalin still planned to expand the Soviet Empire after the war. After the war, Stalin did not change that much as a leader.

Many believe that Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin (“Critical Essays The Russian Revolution”). Stalin was most known as taking control of Russia after the revolution and being a dictator over the Soviet Union. He also used his KGB agents to take out political rivals and spread fear throughout Russia and implemented Stalinism, which gave almost absolute power to the government and primarily himself (“Stalinism: Political Doctrine”). This Parallels to the actions of Napoleon and his pigs. Bob Brecher’s argument is centered around being a counter-claim to Dershowitz’ Ticking Bomb scenario. The counter-claim argues that a ticking bomb scenario, as described by Dershowtiz, is unlikely to occur in the real world, due to the difficulty in apprehending a terrorist after the terrorist plot has been set in motion, but has not yet been fully executed. Even if the authorities are lucky enough to apprehend the suspect before the ticking bomb has been set to detonate, it is improbable that torture would result in the suspect revealing the plot before the bomb goes off. Brecher additionally argues that Dershowitz’ idea of using legalized torture warrants to limit torture would, on the contrary, lead to the abuse of the torture warrant system.

I found it interesting that NT Wright was clarifying the differences between God’s wrath and penal substitution with reform theologian Thomas Schreiner in this video. I was a little unsure, but this video affirmed my understanding that NT Wright was a unique blend of sweet and sour flavors enhanced by hot and spicy pepper that Thomas Schreiner was hot for him to take in. I agree with NT Wright argument the wrath of God. Why? Because Wright says that the cross was about much more than Jesus absolving us of sin.

The Bechdel rule tests film maker’s views on gender equality. “Bechdel Rule is a simple test which names the following three criteria: (1) it has to have at least two women in it, who (2) who talk to each other, about (3) something besides a man,” explains bechdeltest.com. I do not think this is an accurate way to judge if a film as a whole is feminist and agree with Holly Derr when she says that we need to actually sit down and watch the film to decide whether it is feminist.
