There have been many prominent leaders that have molded America into what it is today, Lee is one of them. Robert E. Little is actually known about his childhood, and Lee scarcely mentioned it as an adult. His father, Henry “Light Horse” Lee, left him and his family at a young age and never returned. Another man that was a great Native American photographer is Edward S. Curtis. He was born in 1868 in rural Wisconsin. Curtis probably had some contact with American Indians while growing up in Minnesota. However, most traditional Indian life there had disappeared by the time he and his family arrived in the 1870s, and there is no specific evidence of American Indian influence on his life at that time. Initially, his family was wealthy for some time until one year after Melville was born, they had to move to Albany trying to regain their fortune. Andrew Carnegie was born on November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline, United Kingdom. Growing up, Carnegie’s family believed in the importance of learning and books. However, Carnegie had very little proper schooling. At the age of thirteen, Carnegie and his family moved to the United States of America and settled in Pennsylvania. He soon got a job working in a factory earning only $1.20 a week.

George Brown was a famous Canadian politician who was an important part of the Confederation. He was born in Alloa, Scotland in 1818. George Brown moved to New York in 1837 and migrated to Canada from Liverpool in 1843 at the age of 18 with his father. When they arrived at Canada, they opened a dry goods shop, where George was the only assistant. George soon lost interest in the shop and became a contributor to the “New York Albion”, which was the weekly paper for the British emigrant community.
