Jefferson Davis was born on June 3, 1808 in Christian County Kentucky. He was the tenth child of Samuel Davis and Jane Cook Davis. He was heavily influenced by oldest brother Joseph who made sure that he had a good education. He attended a state college in Kentucky before enrolling in the U.S. Military academy at West Point in 1824. He performed only adequately in school but came out 23rd in his class in 1828.
