Jellyfish blooms are swarms that have reproduced exponentially, causing severe repercussions. Since some species of jellyfish can release up to 40,000 eggs in just one day, per jellyfish, its no wonder how these blooms can occur. These blooms can pollute the seas and waterways, as well as affect local wildlife. Over the years, jellyfish blooms have proven to be quite the serious
Crayfish are decapods pertaining to the phylum arthropoda, which are invertebrates and contain an open-circulatory system.1 The system works by the hemolymph getting re-oxygenated in the gills before being transporting to the heart by brachio-cardiac veins and then pumped to sinuses that bathe tissues with oxygenated hemolymph.2 The crayfish contain a neurogenic heart that depends on neuronal input from cardiac ganglion.3 The neurogenic heart requires nerve impulses to produce contractions in contrast to a myogenic heart that can contract independently from the nervous system.3 The crayfish heart will beat due to the reaction of the ganglion to stimuli in the environment.4 Stimuli will affect the autonomic nervous system in the crayfish that control involuntary actions such as the heart rhythm.4 Neurotransmitters are the chemical signals in which the nervous system regulates both heart rate and contraction.3The autonomic nervous system breaks into two categories as parasympathetic system that is involved in relaxation of organs and the sympathetic system that will stimulate increased activity. Neurotransmitters can either increase or decrease heart rate by altering the patterns in neural activity of the heart.4 Crayfish are poikilotherms, which means they cannot metabolically thermoregulate thus conform to the ambient temperature in the water.
“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel” (King James Version, Prov. 12.10). In order to fully regard the life of God’s beasts, we must preserve/facilitate their population so others can look and marvel at God’s creation. Information shows that seahorse populations are commonly vulnerable to heavy exploitation due to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), aquarium trade, and destruction of natural habitats (Allee). The IUCN red list of threatened species tracks animal populations and classifies them based on conservation status. Many species of seahorse such as the Hippocampus Reidi are classified as data deficient; showing there is a lack of research and concern over these disappearing
The algae washes up on shores and destroy the beautiful of the beaches. This also has a side effect on the economy. A nuclear power plant had to be shut down from the algae problem which has cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars per day.
I think that SeaWorld is an amazing facility. I love the fact that they rescue sea creatures from their inevitable death. I love the fact that children love to come here. I love the fact that this place causes children to subconsciously learn something. I love to bring my kids here on the weekend to watch the shows that the trainers put on with the orcas.
Hannah Ton Mrs. Braun Honors American Literature 1 November 2015 SeaWorld Orca Breeding Should Not Be Continued When Dr. Heather Rally, a veterinarian who specializes with marine mammals, visited SeaWorld, she witnessed an orca with a severely collapsed fin and asked an “educational” guide why its fin was bent. The guide replied that it was a genetic trait just like curly or straight hair. However, Rally knows the truth, scientific evidence suggests that the high rate of dorsal fin collapse in captive orcas is due to conditions of captivity. These include spending an abnormally long time at the surface in direct sunlight and continuously swimming in tight circles.
In most cases, large die-offs of dolphins and manatees were not found to be caused by a recognizable red tide bloom. However, when tested for toxins all of them tested positive for large amounts of breve toxins. This positive testing could have been from consuming fish that were infected such as baitfish. “Although this event did not coincide with an identifiable K. brevis bloom, breve toxins were found in all of the dolphins tested. Baitfish, Menhaden (Brevoortia sp.), containing high concentrations of breve toxins were the most common prey identifiable in dolphin stomach contents, revealing the source of the breve toxins” (Effects of Florida’s).
Kuhl’s stingray The Blue spotted stingray is also known as the Kuhl’s stingray. DESCRIPTION The Blue spotted stingray is a flat round shape averaging 42 centimetres in diameter and 70 centimetres in length.
There are several interesting underwater animals in the earth 's oceans. Several of them have only recently been discovered. Some like the zombie worms have baffled scientists. Others like the deep sea jellyfish have just shocked scientists. Then, there are some like the yeti crabs, which have just confused scientists with how they survive in the hydrothermal vents near Antarctica.
In Japan, Nomura’s Jellyfish are called “Echizen kurage” (because it is Japanese). In comparison, Nomura’s Jellyfish has a width that is slightly larger than an average man’s height. The jellyfish can weigh more than 449 pounds as well as grow up to 180cm in diameter.
I have wanted to be a marine biologist since I was in kindergarten. I grew up being around the water with a beach house on the cape and since age eight, I have competed on a swim team. I am now a lifeguard, swim instructor, and an assistant swim coach. My freshman year I thought I had everything planned out for college. I knew where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do.
Octopuses In the ocean they 're is a multitude of different species of marine life. These differnet species range from simple plankton all the way up to sharks. Although the common perseption that sharks are at the top of the food chain there is a fierce competitor with the sharks and that would be the octopus.
The Keepers from the Plankton Factory are being charged with child abuse. Esperanza Mendoza the leader of the Convent in San Lois caught the Keepers beating up children and duct taped one other children. Some kids testified against the Keepers. Most of the kids say that Jorge Martinez had beaten some of the kids that work there. Fidelito Lopez states, “I was there, Jorge had grab a cane out of a closet and he was going to beat me with it, but Matt had came out and took the cane from Jorge.
Jellyfish may seem like cool creatures, but in reality they hurt people and eat fish, but if we would like less pain in the world we can kill the jellyfish and we can even cook them and make interesting foods out jellyfish. Body Paragraphs: Jellyfish are violent creatures. They hurt humans and fish. Article “Jellyfish Ecology” by Rosalind Fonem says, “For an animal that has does not have a brain, a heart, or blood, jellyfish have a negative impact in many places in the world.” Jellyfish are literally
Atlantic Bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) Introduction: The Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) is a pelagic and schooling fish that is also known as the northern bluefin tuna, giant bluefin tuna. The species is the largest member of the Scombridae family and one of the largest bony fishes. Bluefin tunas are known to swim long distances and usually at high speed of up to about 1.5 knots and can also dive as deep as about 900 meters. The average lifespan of bluefin tunas is 15-30 years with up to 50 years for very large specimens.
Marine organisms are animals, plants, and other living things that live in the ocean. A Marine biologist is a scientist who studies marine organisms and studies the bodies, behavior, and the history of marine organisms. They also study how marine organisms interact with each other and their environment. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its surrounding environment. To start off, a Marine biologist might study coral, crabs, fish, microscopic marine organisms, sea stars, seaweed, squid, or whales.
