Hinton was a great author, she was still presented with many challenges, such as people not having faith in her writing abilities because of the fact that she was a female, but she overcame those negative comments to proceed into the path of greatness. S.E. Hinton was the most inspirational female author during the 1960s, because she was passionate about her career, she has won numerous awards for her outstanding novels, and she has set the expectations for what female writers can accomplish. Throughout the 1960s, many authors

In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie’s faults made her dependent emotionally towards men, but independent when finding her own happy ending throughout the book. From The Odyssey, Calypso desperately tried to find love and make Odysseus stay, but her flaws of attachment and having a higher level of authority over Odysseus in their relationship kept her from achieving real love with someone. Although Janie and Calypso are opposites when it comes to love, they do have similarities. Their relationships always ended the same way, with Janie leaving her husbands and Calypso being deserted by her lovers. They both tried to to find love, with some difficulties for each women individually.

One man’s tragic fate worse than death, trapped with only his estranged wife, former love, and impossible dreams to keep him company through perpetual winter. This is the heart-wrenching tale of Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. Ethan Frome may seem like a simple sad tale of a broken man who can never fulfill his dreams, but the message from the author is much more desperate and meaningful. Edith Wharton writes to warn other women about the dangers of marriage that she experienced on a first hand basis. Despite writing many awarding winning novels over the course of her career, Edith Wharton claims Ethan Frome to be her most autobiographical novel.
In Tobias Wolff’s short story, “Hunters in the Snow,” He uses setting and atmosphere to show that when placed in a severe and brutal environment, male camaraderie often leads to violent behavior. Tub lacks confidence within himself but wants to be respected, the cold and uncomfortable environment helps him to reveal how he truly feels. The character Tub knew he had a weight problem, and he had a hard time gaining control of it. Frank and Kenny would tease him constantly about him being overweight. They would just laugh and watch as Tub struggled with his weight complex.
A person with an unfavorable past will always have critics, despite the improved changes that person has made in their life. In this case the person I am talking about is, Cheryl strayed, author of Wild. The book is a memoir of Cheryl Stayed 's journey to find her sanity. After losing her mother at the age of 22, having an abusive father that had disappeared, and within all the sorrow, Strayed 's siblings and stepfather diffused and her marriage to a respectable man collapsed as a result of her innumerable infidelities as well as a growing addiction to heroin, Cheryl knew she needed to "save herself." Cheryl concluded that "hiking the PCT, (pacific crest trail) was her way back to person she used to be."
In a way, this alludes to Sondheim’s relationship with his mother. After the divorce, his mother goes way off the deep end. She tries to turn Sondheim against his father, begins to emotionally and sexually abuse him, and quite figuratively suffers the same demise as the Baker’s Wife (Secrest 30). “My mother was a difficult lady and I had a difficult time with her,” says Sondheim (Gottfried 13). The once somewhat-stable Foxy Sondheim dies and becomes an entirely different Foxy, one that is broken, hurt, and
Unfortunately, her choice proves virulent because her life with him causes her suffering and abuse. Heathcliff speaks of his wife with full disgust. Isabella trusts him, but it turns out that he only causes her grief and pain. Lastly, Catherine Linton lived a happy life with many loved ones around her, but when she left she went in to an awful environment. At Thrushcross Grange, Cathy’s family always addressed her as “love” or “miss,” but after she marries Linton and moves to Wuthering Heights, she lives with exclamations from Joseph that she would “goa raight to the t’devil” (10) and from Heathcliff that “[she is] an insolent slut” (234) and “a damnable witch.” (234) Catherine went from being the apple of everyone’s eye to having such hatred cast upon her.
I would recommend both Between Shades of Gray and Salt to the Sea to young adults interested in war stories. These books don’t show how hard the way war is on the soldiers, but instead how devastating it was to the citizens. Ruta Sepetys’ books are historical fiction, making them not only interesting but extremely informative. For example, many people have never heard of the Wilhelm Gustloff, yet it was the largest maritime disaster in history. Ruta’s books all are very engaging stories that lead up to an overall idea of the struggles Lithuanians faced during the second world war.

Such as, you don’t have to face things alone, which is shown in the book when Valerie gets support from friends and Dr. Heiler. Also, that bullying can really affect someone, which is also shown in the book because bullying lead to the hate list. Lastly, forgiveness is key when living your life, which is shown throughout the whole book by Valerie because she must overcome the guilt she has. I would rate this book a for sure 10/10. This book is definitely on the list of the top books I have ever read, but my all time favorite book is “The Fault In Our Stars”, and “Hate List” comes very close to it.
