Staten Island did not play a major role in the American Revolution and Civil War. The area was only used as an entrance to Manhattan and Brooklyn where the troops held their forts. Staten Island also went through a very large industrialization movement where the Verrazano Bridge was built. The Verrazano Bridge played an enormous role in the success of Brooklyn because Staten Island is the midpoint of Brooklyn and New Jersey.
